Well, since they are not your hero and you "heard" they were gay, why not give them your name and address and that way if your house ever catches on fire they know not to respond and it can burn and if you happen to be in it..........

I don't get volunteer firemen. Those guys think it's the greatest thing ever. They spend thousands on flashing lights for their s10's and put stickers on their windows. Many volunteer depts having a waiting list for getting a spot. These guys are ate up with it.

I know several of them and yes they ae ate up with it LOL...The understanding, to me, is that it is the adrenolin (however you spell it) like EMT's and gung ho marines. A sense of purpose and a need to be the hero. Its all cool to me, without them I would have lost my house, and once upon a time, my leg...So whatever it is, I am glad they have it!

Volunteer firemen are the most exploited people in this country. Why don't you see volunteer cops?

Well since you think that, why don't you give them your address and when your house catches fire they won't have to leave their families in the middle of the night to help your dumbass. These guys are proud to help people which is something you obviously know nothing about. What a moron.

Sorry but but all us tax payers paying there fire fee a fire dept can't refuse help. Just state law and facts for you to thinks about. They should be held to a higher standard not us as the people.

Well to all those who think that Bville and Ohio River Road fire depts are a bunch of gay guys, I have been on both departments and they arent gay and even if they were it shouldnt matter because they risk their lives to come at all times and save people so therefor they are considered heroes to me and as one I can tell you that they love what they do and wouldnt rather do anything else with their spare time so next time you see one of those men why dont ya thank them for what they do instead of making fun of them because in my experience they are the best of friends and a true brotherhood.
Sincerely,
A Caring Firefighter

Todd - Could you please break down and give me an example of what they can't do that your are paying your hard earned money for? It sounds like you are a bitter individual who just wants to complain so please feel free to post facts...

I personally could not tell you how much of my pay check actually goes to the fire dept but I can tell you I would much rather be in a community where people volunteer to make it a better place to live. I hope you understand they also assist with EMS, fire safety prevention (at home and in the work place) as well as numerous community projects.

I would much much rather my taxes go toward funding a fire dept than funding people who do not work, are drug addicted and have children they are unable to provide for their basic needs...

I am positive that if you contact any volunteer fire dept in the area they will be more than happy to have you come by take a tour and see what they are trained to do.. try something positive for a change ... or you can sit around complain instead of trying to be a positive force within your community

well let me start by saying that i am very proud to be engaged to a fireman, and theyre eat up with wat? the fact that they save peoples lives..not only in a fire situation but in accidents where someone is trapped in the car, i think they deserve to feel good about that! yes they put those lights and sirens in their cars to get idiots who dont respect them attention so they can get to the emergency and save life!!! they VOLUNTEER their lives each time they drop wat they r doing to go to that call..those fireman spend hours and hours in a classroom and out in hot/cold weather (unpaid) learning how to get ur ungrateful a$$ out of an emergency situation! wat have u volunteered ur life for lately? exactly nothing!!!!! and as for the idiot saying they have to go on that call, um NO! again, they are volunteer meaning they go on that call on their own! if they just dont show for the call it goes to the paid dept which who take their time and by the time they get to ur house out of their district you may have lost ur house and/or life! but no worries because no matter how big of a dip sh!t u r my fireman along with those other "gay" guys u r talking about will always be there because they love wat they do!

As a wife of a Barboursville fireman and being around the dept. for many years, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about! It shouldn't matter, gay or straight, these firefighters risk their lives every time the tones go off. They do it because they want to do it, not because they have to do it! it is not a paid job but a brotherhood.... It is the year 2012, so sad that someone could be so childish and not look at the big picture. Grow up and get a life!

Easy there, sister. I'm the one who said they were "ate up with it". Didn't mean any disrespect with that comment. I was simply stating that I don't understand what it is that draws them to it.

I work with some guys who do it. People who volunteer to risk their lives for the sheer desire of saving others just don't go around bragging about it. A lot of these guys talk about themselves like they are superior...although most of the ones I've met have self-esteem issues and almost all of them have authority issues.

I risk my life at work every day. I've seen people die right in front of me, and I've seen many more close calls. I just don't wear it on my sleeve and act like everyone owes me something.

FYI...the firefighters don't "wear it on their sleeves" and DONT act like anyone owes them anything! This is ridiculous....Bvfd is one of the best fire depts in the state and has many years of training and knowledge. Regardless if anyone is Gay or straight or whatever else, as long as they go out and do their job and save lives and make it home safe, that means they got the job done! Let it go and get on with life !!!!

I think volunteer fire fiighters take it way to seriously. Remember in high school all the "cool" kids had hip scanners and a mandatory chew in. Lol that's cool you volunteer to fight fires. But I won't commend you. When I wear my uniform here, and over in theatre, I do it because I'm paid. Lol not for the fun of it. Get a real job. Lol
