You know you people have some nerve posting negative comments on here about these boys!! These boys are young. You have one freshman, 2 sophomores and I think 2 juniors that start on this team. They have done well this season to be so young. Grow up!!!!!! Weren't you ever taught by your parents that if you don't have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all. If you think the coaching sucks then apply for the job!!! This is not the NBA, it is high school ball. Shut up and quit talking bout these kids. I watch every game and the have improved. Give credit where credit is due! Stop trying to relive your old high school days and praise these kids once in a while. Oh, if you don't like my post, I don't care.

I agree nothing wrong with these young men. THEY HAVE TALENT. Proud of them for the games I have attended along with the girls team. However.....8-36 over the last two years.....lets blame it on the team being young....maybe so. Come back on next year or the year after if they are still not sucessful and join our conversation about the coaches. They have only been there two years so maybe it will take a couple of more to BE A COACH (teach the fundamentals), BE A MENTOR, INSPIRE THE PLAYERS THROUGH ACTION, and BE A LEADER AT ALL TIMES. When this young team is down 10, 15 or 20 points you do not fall back in your chair and say nothing......you COACH!!!! They feed off each other, coaches and the sixth man. These boys can be great over the next couple of years we shall see if the coaches captialize on what they have.

<quoted text> I agree. Buddy basketball is mostly about the parents not the kids. I do know that Ripley has hurt high school ball due to being at the middle school level for so long. He hurt and now he is at Midland. What up with that. There is talent at Midland but you got to have a coach that will bring it out of them. I still think they have improved since the beginning of the season and with the right coaching they could get better.
When you are playing catch up at the high school level, it's too late. Huntington produced Mayo and Patterson, but not over night. They played ball most of their lives. We do not have anyone who can compete with that. I wish we did. Mark Patton was as close as we had. AND gym availability is a big deal. What to have change, send your kids to camps...get instruction, not from some guy who works at the plant. Someone with enough talent that they can coach for a living, someone with a successful basketball career. Just saying, by the time it gets to High School, it doesn't matter who it is, it's almost always too late.

Agree with all you stated about camps and coaches. When it comes to camps and you believe your kid has talent fun camps are not the way to go. Marshall and WVU are fun camps. You get to meet the coach (once) and play around with assistant coaches. Real camps cost some dollars, have scouts there, tell your kids what they need to work on and rank your son or daughter. I agree it may be too late but a lot of kids breakout (mature) 10-12 grades. Coaches need to know how to work the fundamentals and capitalize on those talents....many do not. What the problem is parents many times have to face reality as I had to. It was just not going to happen for my kid for college but not for HS Basketball.....I thought. I do have a problem with kids coming back to play their senior year (Patterson/Mayo)....not on HHS roster 9-11 (I think). There are no 'I" in team but there sure are a lot of "I's" being brought into HS programs throughout the state to make them successful. So much for the HS being a representation of the local community and local kid’s talents. Just seen the aggravation on my kids face when he worked hard for eight years to represent his HS and was motivated by the coach for his senior year and it happened. Here comes a transfer (parents approached the coach in off season if he would like this player to come) with no ties to the community and a skilled athlete that my kid could not compete with. Of course my son set the bench most of the year but showed strong leadership by not quitting the team. I do not blame the transfer or my son. However, I do blame the coach and it was for not. The superstar failed out of college and no state title. Be a coach of HS Basketball.....do not put your kids, community and parents through this. Look at all the drama today with recruiting in HS.....almost all the coaches’ deny it. Stay strong with your community program HS coaches.

The coaches suck! Point blank. This is one of if not the biggest school in the state! They should at least be competitive! There should always be enough talent at this school to always keep freshman on the freshman team. U cannot tell me that somewhere in the halls of midland there are no upperclassmen who should be playing. It is the coaches job to make sure those kids play. The coach himself did not play ball in high school so how is he supposed to teach these kids to play at this level! Stewart should have never been fired! U have to win with what u have and a good coach always will figure out a way to win

There has never been a Midland boys basketball coach (head coach/assistant) that did not play high school basketball. Not sure where you are getting your info.

As I have read more on this sight I realize that it is nothing but people putting down other people and I wish I wouldn't have even commented on this subject! I wish coach stead and his staff the best I am sure that they are working as hard as they can to correct the teams issues! My son will be playing up there in four years so the subject does concern me though! I hope they can right the ship or that another coach will soon take over! Go knights!!!

None of the current staff is from around here. HC is from Parkersburg & the AC is from Lincoln County. I don't know how much they played but I know they played high school.

No problem. My son played for them a while back when they were assistants. So he got to know them pretty well.

Y would u keep coaching if your not able to at least have a winning season or even close to it? It truely is hard for the young men to come back the next year if they know about how it's going go. When the coaches sub the way they do it's proof they don't know what to do so they are fishing for a win. So if any one can talk them into stepping down please do it will only b good for the team ! I am not saying they are bad guys they are just not good high school coaches

Haha, there is only 1 kid walking the halls who could help this team, and he was too lazy to play. I play against these kids sometimes, even now when I'm not in the greatest shape, still where them out. They weren't good in Middle School, not good as freshman, not good on JV and not good now. Heck the best shooter blew out an acl playing for the football team, put him on the floor and they are a lot better. Sorry to burst your bubble, without him there is no superstar.
this probably taylor allen or matt walker or one of those p ussies,
BOTH who get beat up on by sawyer everytime they play him. and theyre better now than they were in highschool! explain how that happens?
