I hope the public realizes that the people that were at the capitol do not represent Marsh
Fork Elementary School. We don't even recognize most of the people. When we are consolidated with Fairdale Elementary, we will have them to thank.

WELL, WHOEVER THEY REPRESENTED SHOULD BE ASHAMED... THEY COULD HAVE AT LEAST 'DRESSED' FOR SUCESS. SEEMS LIKE PEOPLE JUST DONT EVEN CARE HOW THEY LOOK EVEN IN PUBLIC... NOT TO MENTION ON TV --AND-- THEY HAD TO HAVE KNOWN THE NEWS WOULD BE THERE... THEY LOOKED DISGRACEFUL... PEOPLE IN WV GET ENOUGH BAD RAP "WE" COULD ALL LEARN FROM THESE DO GOODERS ON HOW TO LOOK IN PUBLIC AT THE VERY LEAST...

Ms McGinnis, I hope you realize there is a 2.8 Billion Gallon Sludge Dam above the school, I hope you realize the silo permit(not counting the 1st) would emit an extra 3.6 tons of coal dust, 1/2 of that less than 10 microns which the body has no defense over. I hope you realize the diesel that the trains run on is a proven cause of cancer. I hope you realize the binding agents that are sprayed on the coal when they are loaded are also carcinogens. I hope you realize that immediately after the sludge dam in Martin Co Kentucky destroyed miles of community that workers here were above the school at the sludge dam pumping water and diverting it as fast as they could because they were afraid of it failing at that time.
I also hope you realize that yes, I choose to live on Coal River, as my ancestors before me, but I do not choose to have my grandchildren attend a school that has the potential for danger. I believe my grandchildren deserve better from our State.
No, I do not represent MFE, I represent my grandchildren.

It is the thought of the sludge dam above the school which frightens me more this morning...only 2.5 inches of rain and all this flooding, this dam has over 200 Serious and Substantial violations. Which means if certain occurrences happen, over 1000 people will lose their lives. I wish I had the confidence you do in our government agencies and mining companies. One fellow who helped build this said to anyone that would listen, timbers were dumped there in the process of building the dam and also one large area to the left of the dam was wet mud when built and couldn't be compacted.

Yet he contenued to work there.. Why??

The dam at Goals coal was built in 1977, By either Armco or Peaboby, the 'Fellow' who help build it must not be much of a 'fellow' not to say anything until well over 25 years had passed.
How many of his own childern went to M.F.E.S.? Why was it not as important then?

Valerie, I can't answer for the gentleman that worked on this sludge dam, I can tell you that he has spoken out for quite a few years now only no one is hearing.
The dam was permitted in 1982 under Armco for a dam 85ft tall.It is now 385ft tall. I myself didn't realize it was there until the officials were afraid of failure after the Martin Co. disaster. It was then I learned of the water having to be diverted away from it and pumped out of it because of rains we had received. This was before the 2000 acre MTR site was started above it in 2003. It was then that I started educating myself on what was around my grandchilds school and to the fact that it isn't just coal dust anymore. Thanks to 'clean coal' not only is it dust but dust and chemicals.
It took almost 3 years for us to get 2 deadly anhydrous ammonia tanks removed from this site which were 600ft from the school.
The appearance of the coal silo in 2003 was a definite slap in the face as if to say 'take this too'
Perhaps the gentleman you question had enough of his doctor bills pile up(neurological effects from chemicals used at plant, class action law suit) or perhaps it was when his grandchildren entered the school that was his slap in the face. Whatever the reason I thank him and just wish people would start 'hearing'

IF THE TRUE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY BELIEVED EVERYTHING THAT CAME OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF ALL OF THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS THAT COME IN HERE, WE WOULD ALL BE STUPID, GREEDY, CHILD MURDERING "COAL HOES" (THEIR WORDS, NOT MINE). DO YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE EVERYONE WHO HAS CHILDREN IN MARSH FORK ELEM. AND LIVES HERE ON THIS RIVER OR WORKS AT THAT COAL MINE, COULD REALY BE SO COLD HEARTED TO PUT THE 218 STUDENTS, ALL OF THE STAFF AND ANYONE WHO LIVES BELOW SUNDIAL IN HARMS WAY ? I DON'T....... AS TO WISHING PEOPLE WOULD START "HEARING", I AGREE, I WISH EVERYONE WOULD HEAR THE PARENTS AT MARSH FORK SAYING LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE, WE DON'T NEED ANYONE SPEAKING FOR US..

Check you MSHA, EPA, and DEP records. Do your own investigation.

I have lived on Coal River all of my life, does that qualify me to be a 'true member'?

SURE IT DOES, BUT IT DON'T MAKE EVERYONE WHO IS ASKED TO COME HERE "PART OF THE COMMUNITY" AND IT ALSO DON'T GIVE ANYONE THE RIGHT TO SAY THEY ARE SPEAKING FOR THE COMMUNITY, TO SAY THE KIDS AT M.F.E.S. ARE ALL SICK IS A FLAT OUT LIE, TO CALL HARD WORKING PARENTS GREEDY IS PATHETIC , AND TO CALL LOVING MOMMY'S, DADDY'S, GRANDMOTHERS, GRANDFATHERS, AUNTS AND UNKLES "MURDERERS", IS JUST WRONG.YOU ARE ALLOWED ANY OPINION YOU WANT, JUST AS I AS TO MINE ... YOU ,C.R.M.W., M.J.S., AND WHO EVER ELSE THAT IS ASKED TO COME HERE DON'T KNOW MY KIDS, HOW CAN ANYONE OF YOU SAY THERE ARE SICK AND SUFFERING??? AND THE REALLY SCARY PART OF ALL THIS IS DO YOU ALL KNOW WHO IS BEING BROUGHT IN HERE AROUNG OUR KIDS?? WITH YOU BEING EDUCATED AND ALL, YOU SHOULD THAT KNOW PARENTS DON'T LIKE IT WHEN OUR CHILDREN FEEL THREATENED BY THESE PEOPLE...

Just to start for all of you educated people out there it don't take a rocket scientist to know that if you feel like your kids of grandchildren are not safe at school TAKE THEM OUT drive them somewhere else or if your so educated home school them.
And educated or not WE DON'T WANT PEOPLE SPEAKING FOR WE CAN HANDLE IT!! Thanks anyway for nothing.

All you do is go from one topic to the other to bitch, moan and groan about something. If you are so concerned, then why don't you get off the computer and talk to someone who will listen instead of bitching about it here....LALALALALALALALA

Very good point. You may bet he is a UMWA member who is on a check and now wishes to expose all of the wrong doings .or alledged anyway .

I use to work in that area and the majority oof the protesters were from out of state !
I wonder why California , Lousianna and Tennessee license plates were there.
Some of the protestors must of thought soap and deodorant was a carciongen because they sure smelled !

Someone tell me if I am crazy, but isnt all the people who is whining about the dam the same ones trying to keep MFHS from closing....If we are in such danger why would they want to leave MFHS here??? Not saying I didnt want it here. All they are doing is forcing the board to close our ONLY school we have left, MFES....... You all should be ashamed.

A certain person is being very feisty and fiery today. You may also suspect that they're looking for an argument and will provoke you until you rise to the bait. Trigger points include shared finances, sex and any topic that is currently supposed to be off-limits. You'll probably discover that you want to clear the air, but don't get carried away.
