Oh boo hoo hoo. She was no one to blame except herself for leaving money behind. She can speak English unlike some of the other foreign travelers. PS you can buy disposable phones for use overseas. As for the meds contact either the nearest hospital or doctor, assuming you were intelligent enough to have a copy of your prescription with you in case of emergencies. FYI She has friends in Europe, duh she's not alone. Oh by the way ONN Europe is spelled Europe not Eurpoe, "For our customers affected by the winter weather in Eurpoe, we are doing all we can to get them on the next available flight," Continental Airlines said in a statement to ONN."

How in the world is this actually a story? First of all, the girl is trapped in LONDON-not West Africa. If she feels scared, the law enforcement there is very helpful and savvy. Secondly, this is the sort of thinking that leaves a bad taste in Europeans' mouths. "This sort of thing would never happen in America." Are you kidding? Flights are cancelled and delayed ALL the time; I've see it because I work in hotels and corporate housing! This is just a story abouit an irresponsible girl that is learning a hard lesson about traveling...and the benefits of fanny-packs.

I had to laugh when I read this,, she sounds like a spoiled kid to me. Like you said she isn't all alone, she went to visit friends there so why don't she go back to these friends until she can fly out??? 20 isn't a little kid, my son is 20, and is very mature for his age

I have to agree with all the above posters. A 20 year old has "never seen anything like it", an airport closed down for bad winter weather, with stranded people everywhere? Apparently she never had to fly out of Cleveland in the winter too often; they have more weather delays and cancellations than any airport in the country. Home Alone 4: Lost in London. "Like, OMG! I don't understand the weird language these people are speaking! It almost sounds like English."

I totally agree with all of the posting I have read. This sounds like a very spoiled rotten little girl that is use to getting whatever she wants. I wonder if she is one of the brats that wrote horrible things on my daughter's door at OU about living in Germany.
1st she should have gotten the Verizon phone on an international plan just like my daughter does when she travels back and forth between Ohio and Germany. When she gets back to Ohio she switches it back to the normal plan. If this is to expensive get a cheap disposable phone on the economy.
2nd when traveling overseas make sure you always take a copy of your medication RX with so if something happens you have them.
3rd Never leave money laying around either use a fanny or neck pouch
4th be prepared for all situations when traveling in winter months

If you think this would never happen in the states you sure need to grow up because it does. Airlines can not control the weather and will not allow planes to fly in severe weather. Your line of thinking is why Europeans think we are all stuck up pigs and feel we are better then them. She is safe she is in London and the Bobby's are there if she feels someone has harassed her, intimidated or otherwise hurt her she needs to go straight to them for assistance.

I was afraid before I read the comments that I'd be the only one saying poor little girl spending the winter break in Europe. My next thought was where are her "friends". Glad to see I'm not alone. Not to sound completely cold hearted but I do pray for safe travels for them all.

She does look like a cutie, though. If she plays this story up into more publicity, she may get an invite onto a reality TV show or maybe Playboy's "Girls of the Mid American Conference" photoshoot.

She is probably distraught because she was not stranded in Hawaii of the Caribbean where it is warm and she can spend beach time.

Why is this story even in the news? Stranded in an airport because of bad weather. Big deal.

I think we have more important things to worry about in this world than a seemingly beautiful, healthy, spoiled 20 year old waiting on a flight to the U.S. Get real little girl! Now go find yourself a nice little corner, cover up with your little space blankie, suck your little thumb, and be happy. Hush, Hush now, when you get home mama will buy you a mocking bird.

If this girl is this helpless, she shouldn't have been travelling alone. It's winter, and planes don't fly in bad weather. Travellers should be prepared.

I certainly wish I could afford to be in that sort of situation. LOL Anybody so stupid to admit they don't know that planes don't fly in bad weather better just stay home all year. HELLO!!!

I agree with all the above. When I was 14 I got stranded in an airport due to a hurricane ( in the u.s.) it wasn't that bad. The rest of my family was at home in the midwest. If I can sleep on a chair in airport at 14, with no money, no phone, no family, so can she. She does sound pretty spoiled I bet it was mom and dads money that sent her to europe in the first place.

I agree with every post so far. I can't believe she said that things like this don't happen in America! How embarrassing for her and for Americans.

At 20 years old and a college student I would think she would be mature enough to handle this situation. Both this 'girl' and her mother should be thankful she is safe and for having the resources to go to England and to have presents waiting under the tree.

I bet there's a lot of 18-20 year old Americans over in Iraq right now who wish they were as "vulnerable" as this girl, not to mention the parents and spouses who would love for their loved one to be stranded in a hotel in London instead of where they are now.

Seriously, this is news?

Now when she would be "trapped" in Alaska it would be newsworthy, but being "trapped" in London?

Stupid news!

"something like this would never happen in America" ????

What the heck???? IT HAPPENS IN AMERICA!!

Such a bunch of whiners.
God forbid the Mom or daughter may end up homeless like so many in our "greatest nation in the world"!

And btw., I was also stuck in Columbus airport 10 years ago. I survived.
