Here's a suggestion city of Barberton, I saw this in a movie once...

The tax collector beats on the door of the deadbeats, they tie the males behind their horses and drag them through the woods, then they rape and behead the females and children and finally burn the house down after they search it for any gold nuggets. I don't think they ever did it for ten bucks though.

Nice job Barberton for running your people out of the city.

this is horrendous, while these people and millions of other americans are doing without basic necessities so the shrub and his kind can finance the killing and destruction of other humans all over that these people and other americans pay for with their taxes, and lots of congressmen in previous times have stolen thousands and thousands for years before being caught. the law is following the shrubs policy of total terrorism on american citizens. more like nazi policies than america. also, evidently the illegal immigrants do not have to worry, cause noone knows where they are all hiding and whose home, so they do not get charged.

we are being terrorized in every faction of our everyday life, from gas prices, taxation, and fear for our lives. now we do not even have to do a crime to worry about the law dragging us off or invading our homes, they want to take our guns so we have no protection against wild animals, they kill without reason (lawmen) and generally have taken away free speech and many other freedoms.. Yet we are supposed to keep financing wars fighting terrorists. the real terrorists are right here at home!

This is an example of what you get when pin-heads are given authority. They've taken advantage of their power without engaging any common sense. Hopefully the residents will remember some names (Judge & Mayor) at the voting booth. The Mayor is in office to represent the city and the residents. He took a cowardly approach and decided to ignore the citizens who probably helped put him in office. Communities have voiced their dissatisfaction with the unbridled spending by the schools by rejecting school levies. Now its time we voice our dissatisfaction with the elected pin heads that shrug their shoulders and/or demonstrate poor judgement. Cast your votes wisely.

Unbelieveable. A civil matter that because it is a governmental agency have the right to make it a criminal matter... just unbelievable.

Betcha if you were given a bad check from someone for $10 within that court jurisdictional area, the court, sheriff, or police department would not even take the case for prosecution because of the menial amount. Go figure!

LOL finally a story for the late night shows that does not involve Virginia.
I thought VA was always going to be the butt of dumb officials doing stupid things.
Bet it cost the city a lot more than $10 to send deputies out to arrest them.
Thanks for my laugh today, Barberton.

If you know you owe $10.12 in taxes. Pay it. That's a lunch. Also, OPEN YOUR MAIL. She said herself that she thought certified mail was legal related - THEN OPEN IT. Lack of common sense caused this - and not on the part of the city. I'd be just as annoyed if I had to consistently ask someone for my $10 and they just ignored me.

The process is in place and unfortunately people chose to ignore the process.

I've always heard that the city of Barberton was a poor place and the constant but of jokes but man,...$10?

It must be worse there than I thought! If they have to arrest their citizens for $10 then things must be really bad!!! I never thought I would say this, but I'm glad I live in Akron!

You're absolutely right, they caused the problems and for 10 bucks. It's just that send the sheriffs out seemed a little excessive, but it's absolutely, total their fault. I wonder if they led them away in handcuffs. Seems like overkill.

I find it amazing that they will go after someone for a late $10.00 payment but if someone violates a Civil Protection Order, for example, they just hand out warnings to the violator. I know from experience. I have a CPO that I had issued on someone (long story) and they violated it twice in July and all they did was warn that person. Well, the first warning didn't work and so they try again.....what do they do? They hand out a second warning.

What they choose to prosecute and arrest someone for around here vs. the things that are more serious issues is really backwards in the eyes of the law and justice system these days.

When it comes time to elect new law officials, like prosecutors, I think the citizens of Barberton should remember this incident and what I just mentioned. It will be time to clean house the next time we elect people for these jobs.

oh this is just crazy. I agree that she should have picked up her mail but come on. Two sheriff's deputies ? do you have any idea what they make an hour? more than $10.12/hr. Being in government means that you analyze the situation and determine the most cost effective way to deal with it. this would be like you having a flat tire and instead of calling AAA or changing the flat yourself you buy a new car. Bunch of morons.

Vote for Bill Conte!!!!!!!!

I agree completely. hard to feel sorry for someone who continually ignored notices for a lousy $10! and not picking up certified mail? scary cause that could be anything. This isn't about abuse of power, its about personal responsibility

You're swayed by your emotions today, making you susceptible to other people's machinations. Are you putty in the hands of your beloved? Are you willing to do whatever, just to keep the peace?
