Chalotte Beach property being bought and sold by casino backers

Michael J. Malik, Sr., the man behind plans the past 15 years to site a Bay Mills Indian Community off-reservation casino in Port Huron among other places, has been buying and selling land in the Charlotte Beach subdivision of east Barbeau, Michigan.
The Bay Mills tribe has alleged land claims to 110 acres in the Charlotte Beach subdivision dating back to the 1990s. Former Governor John Engler signed a land claims settlement agreement with the tribe in 2002 that could allow them to open an off-reservation casino on the site of the Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron in exchange for extinguishing any claims to land in the Charlotte Beach subdivision.
Malik's team alleges property values have dropped dramatically in Charlotte Beach as a result of the Tribes land claims and created other hardship on those who own property in the subdivision that sits along the St. Mary's River, south of Sault Ste. Marie.
Also acquiring and selling land since 2000 in Charlotte Beach are several of Malik's business associates. The property they've purchased has increased (not decreased) in value and sold rather quickly too.
