went to the new frontier bbq and had an excellent meal. nice change of pace from that garbage they use to serve. some people seem like all they care about is cheap food. i knew someone that use to work at pappy's and they told me about all the horrible things that went on there. like drug dealing out the back door, stealing from the owners, multiple arrests, marijuana smoking between serving customers. cattlemans bbq sauce out of a bucket, hushpuppies out of a freezer and 3 day old pulled pork out of the cooler. someone has to tell the truth and some of these reviews sounds like a bunch of slandering nonsense. give the place a try. i will be back.

Went to Frontier BBQ yesterday for lunch. It was excellent. I had the breaded shrimp and 1/2 rack of ribs and my husband had the wings and 1/2 of rack of ribs. The rib entrees were served with a choice of 2 sides. I had the sweet potato fries and string beans and my husband had the regular fries and okra. The ribs were fall off the bone, tender, and the most meat we ever had on baby backs. The sides and appetizers were very good also. The food was overflowing on our plates. We could not finish all the food so took the remainder home. We were still not hungry at dinner time so skipped dinner. My husband took the leftovers to work with him for lunch today. It was excellent food. We saw the people at the next table order the pulled pork sandwich and the sandwich was huge. Try the Frontier, it's great BBQ.

We ate here in spite of the bad reviews, and I'm so glad we did. Our experience was just great. Judy, our waitress, was informative, knowledgeable and attentive--everything a customer could want. The food--well, it was just outstanding. The hushpuppies were worth every penny. Crisp little morsels, flavorful and addicting. Not the "belly bombs" usually servied with barbecue. The meat was tender and juicy and full of smoky goodness. Add the Eastern sauce at the table made it perfect. I had green beans and mac and cheese sides, and it was easy to see (and taste) that care was given to them. The mac and cheese tasted of real cheese (not cheese product) and was perfectly cooked, not mushy and bland. The beans were definitely not from a can, and neither had they been cooked beyond recognition. I only wish I had room for the bread pudding, but I'll be back! Great place to eat.

This BBQ rocks, these bad reviews in the beginning sounds like bitterness. Better than woodlands and bandanas. The baby backs were a lot bigger and tastier than other places. The service was great. I will be back soon.

more likely the 'great' reviews are friends of the owners......the q was overprice and bad...i have heard the food is getting better but is still overpriced

This guy must be on crack because the portions are huge. Must want the golden corral all you can eat buffet. Some people need to get out of the trailer park sometimes.

After reading the previous reviews I was curious to try Frontier BBQ. As a long time patron of Pappy's I knew it would be a hard sell to like something else as much. But I've also experienced the culinary prowess and outstanding management skills at their other restaurant. Frontier BBQ did not disappoint! All of the staff, including our waiter whose first day was today, were friendly, knowledgeable and competent. The food came out quickly, and was fresh and hot. And, everything was delicious! The pulled pork was some of the best I've ever had; the ribs fell off the bone; and the brisket was fantastic! The prices were reasonable, especially given the large quantities. In fact, I pulled out an old menu from Pappys and the prices are only about $1 more per plate. That is a meager amount extra to pay for excellent quality, quantity and service that Frontier BBQ provides. They are a welcome addition to the High Country.

We were very disappointed in the food and the service. We did get huge servings but the ribs were bland and then covered with sauce that wasn't very good. My husband said his chicken was okay once he scraped the sauce off. Our waitress was always in too big of a hurry. She would drop off food on the run before we could say anything. Literally - she didn't stop as she dropped our things (food, bill) off at the table. Then we had to track someone down for tea refills, and to get change from our check.

I don't think we'll go back.

This place truly sucks. Price is way to high and there is nothing to choose from on the menu. If u want real BBQ go to Highlander BBQ in Roan Mtn Tn

Why do I get the feeling you're only on here to promote Highlander BBQ? Yes, Frontier is expensive, but there are a lot of choices on the menu.

This is a quick fair summary after eating there several times:

Very Clean (102 score)

Fair to bad service.

Reasonable to high prices.

Decent food. Far form the best but far from the worst.

Overall impression: There is nothing special about the food. But will go back because there is nothing better in the area.

I've dined at the Frontier twice and both times were excellent! If the food priced a little higher it may be because they give you such large portions. Great staff, friendly and quick.

I've dined at the Frontier twice and each time the food was excellent, chicken / pulled pork. Great staff, quick and friendly.
Wish the owners the best in this new venture.

Our waitress would do better to pursue a job at a truck-stop. Makes me want to bring in a full course meal from Woodlands just to violate their ever so friendly sign posted at the door about not bringing in food from another restaurant. The restaurant business is a tough gig, you would think that they would try harder to want people to come back. I know I won't.
