I believe that there was a lawsuit or accusations last year that we did not do enough at the beach to warn against bad conditions. This year we seemed to do more that enough. We had huge flags. We had officers going up and down the beach telling people to get off of the beach. We closed the pier off. I cannot believe that after the very first incident people did not get out of the water. Most of the people were ones that were on the beach all day. Why?

They are going to have to start issuing tickets to people that fail to comply. Shouldn't need the city to parent people, but there are some real dumb ones in the water.

I think tickets are a great idea, why should our people have to risk their lives for people who are dumb enough to go in even after all the warnings? I drove by last night around 8pm and the dbl flags were out, police were down there and still tons of ppl in the water....IGNORANCE!!!

South Haven has put into place some real good laws. They need to follow up on them and put some teeth into the laws. Such as people in the water at least a warning ticket should be issued. Same for the noise issue after late hours. Another case of a warning ticket.
South Haven is a great place you want people to come back but you also want people to feel safe and comfortable while they are in town.

South Haven has no authority to prevent people from swimming in Lake Michigan. "Common Sense" is just not common anymore. Few people even understand what the flag color means, let alone even pay attention. Today, we expect government to protect us with all kinds of rules and regulations in all that we stupidly do, if something happens because we have no "common sense" a lawyer is waiting for the call.
We can clear the beach but we have no jurisdiction for playing in the waves. Nobody has.

What is really sad is when small children are not supervised in the water and drown. Their lives dependent on their "no common sense" guardian.
Or a life is lost trying to save "no common sense" from drowning.
No responsibility for themselves or again "common sense".
Hey, I put money in the box to park and you took it, so it must be ok to enjoy the beach and lake. I can't read without my glasses and I have no clue what the colored flags mean. If I should drown its not fault I have no common sense. If I shouldn't be here why take the money?

Can't keep people out of the water, can't ticket people for being in the water. We can control the pier and beach, not the lake. Get it?
If adults want to risk their lives let them, just hope that they protect their children keeping them out of the lake.
People need to start taking responsibilities for themselves, but isn't going to happen in todays world.
Like I said no more common sense, somehow lost in the "breeding".
