Suggesting a huge drop in property taxes due to our local nuclear plant concerns and major downgrading. Also, renters and tourists be given that pill on their pillow and placed in theit shopping bag, just in case..as the Van Buren Emergency Handbook has suggested the residents obtain to help prevent thyroid cancer.

in case of nuclear emergency at the plant just a few miles down the beach. By the way, were you made aware of Palisides on your Disclosure when you purchased that cute cottage? Didn't think so...

Homesteader...
since the NRC just upgraded the plant would you suggest a huge increase in property taxes?

Soo you really believe that all the issues/problems at the aging ENTERGY PLANT are now behind us? The more it ages the more issues there will be. It was in everyone's interest to upgrade the plant and continue the elevated inspections. Will they go away, I doubt it!

No, living in close proximity to a nuclear plant is a negative to property values,
always will be. Especially, so in this case. The City of South Haven does not factor this in assessments, it is simply ignored along with Realtors.

Homesteader,
Just trying to update you with the facts. The NRC in January downgraded the plant, as you alluded to. But in November it announced it is satisfied with its progress in safety issues and upgraded them back to its top safety performance category.
Sandy Shores,
I would never try to predict the future of this plant, or assume their problems are over.

Top safety performance catagory? Then why are inspectors adding an additional 1,000 hours to this plant?
My concern was lowering taxes...seems Van Buren wants taxpayers to be prepared, why if it is not dangerous?
Interesting also the high number of cancer deaths from employees. But, then again they pay very high wages, for the gamble.

Hush! Please don't tell the tourists that the Palisades Power Plant has been, again, shut- down.

We are spending sooo much money in rebuilding and dressing up the town for the up-coming liquor serving sidewalk cafes and South Beach open beer drinking parties. We will even be able to drink on city property, party, party.

Those pesky bicycle cop boys, thank goodness, they are fewer now, or maybe we eliminated them?
Michigan State Police, gone.
Call 911 and have the call forwarded from Van Buren to South Haven, give us a bit more time...
