anyone have any idea what is going with this??? last i heard the merger wasnt going through after all cause TCLEOSE (thats the state run agency that is in charger of all texas police) said Mcmanus could not merge all 3 agencies because of the pay differences and if he wanted them everyone would have to be paid the same. i have also heard that SAPOA (san antonio police officers association) was lobbying in austin to try and get that law changed.. any have any input???

I hope they don't merge. All they do is count squirrels and pegions all day. They would not make a pimple on a real cops butt. It was a sad day when they changed the name from what they really are (Park Rangers) to what they wish they could be (Park Police). If they want to be real Police Officers, then go to the San Antonio Police Academy. They should all be downgraded to civilian positions and transfer real police from SAPD to be Park Police! Airport Police should be allowed to remain as they are, they get a lot more training from the Feds due to Homeland Security rules.

I think they ought to leave the Park Rangers as their own agency. They don't deserve to merge with real Cops. Real Cops don't hang out in restrooms setting up Priests and Precient Judges on make believe charges!

You might be able to train a monkey, but I don't think the squirrel counters can learn anything new. Their content to conduct pegion count at all the municipal parks. Maybe they'll form a underwater scuba team to recover lost golf balls out of the lakes by the city golf course.

Tyler Durdin, you are a moron. Stop talking about your fellow officers that way, didn't your parents teach you any respect? They are your sibblings now, like it or lump it. You must have been the playground bully. What do they have that makes you so jealous, or do you just enjoy picking on those less fortunate than you? Just so you know, they could find the golf balls if you just spit them out of your mouth!

They are worthless, should be disbanded, and replaced with real Officers from SAPD. Then and only then could they be called Park Police, as it stands now they are just wannabes and really piss off the Officers who went the extra mile to be counted on to do the job of law enforcement, not counting squirels and pegions.

Tyler Durdin, you came to a battle of the wit unarmed! How many times do I have to tell you, going through an academy does not make you GOD! Get over the brain washing and understand you are not the only LE branch in SA. You suffer from crab in the bucket syndrome, when you see another crab trying to get out of the bucket, you are quick to try and pull them back down. AGAIN, if you want to work for the Park Police, just apply. Don't feel bad because they keep turning you down. Get a life buddy and let go of your anger, it leads to the dark side....

NOW HOLD ON TYLER, I KNOW SEVERAL OF THESE GUYS. THEY DO AS MUCH AS WE DO, AND IN SOME CASES MORE. THEY HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED PEACE OFFICERS BEFORE THEY ARE HIRED. WITH US (SAPD) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED, WHICH MEANS NO PRIOR LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE.

a lot of the Park Police Officers were Police Officers at other agencies, Bexar County Sheriffs Office, Blacones Heights PD, SAPD, and a host of small town Agencies. Are you trying to tell me that someone with No ACTUAL experience is better than someone with Experience? You forget so fast where their chief comes from....are you calling him a piegon counter or squirel chaser? Several Park Police Officers are former SAPD, are they tainted because of their patch? There are several Law Enforcement Agencies in Bexar County, Constables, School District Police, Airport Police, are they not as good as us because they did not go through our Academy? It takes more than an Academy to make a good Officer, obviously you missed that lesson at our Academy!!!

You are trying to play them off on a stereotype and that is just wrong. Where is your Professionalism?

Fact is, you are PREJUDICE against fellow Officers, and that is just sick. Just because they are not like us, you write them off as wannabees. I only hope your PREJUDICE ends within our ranks, and does not extend to others. There has been a CITY ORDINANCE passed and signed that states the Park Police, and Airport Police are coming under our Command. We need good Officers, to fill our 200 PLUS vacancies. They are more than qualified, and I would rather have one of them next to me than your prejudice.

If you can not accept the way things are going to be, maybe it is time you retired, and move on to where you can be PREJUDICE. We have no room for people like you in our ranks!!!

When I think of the likes of a park ranger at the alamo calling himself "banda macho" on some threads being counted among the regular police ranks it makes me sick. There are some real losers working in uniform at the parks around S.A.

Good luck citizens of San Antonio, you're gonna need it...

If you're really in Germany - Why are you putting in your two cents?

Believe it was Judge Wolff's idea to integrate the police force with security personnel. He is a retired officer from Brinks. Last served as the driver of the Brinks Truck. Judge Wolff was instrumental in saving the lives of everyone around the Medina Lake Dam. In addition, he is building a high speed rail system to Hondo. He even named a ball park in San Antonio "Wolff Stadium". He is an expert in economics. This man works 24 hours a day -but- does very little in meeting the requirements of a judge... Being a judge is just a filler... He is also a part time greeter at the Bandera Road Walmart. Here comes the Judge!

The German does not know the difference between a security guard and Police Officer. Here is a hint, one of the two has State Powers of Arrest, search, and Seizure. Second hint, it is not the "ALAMO RANGER" who is a private security guard, but hey, I guess they ALL look alike.....

Dear anonymous, The problem is not that you are putting in your two cents. The problem is that your two cents is a cent and a half short... If you are from SA, they how is it possible that you can not tell the difference between a security guard and police officer?????? You can read, can't you? If not, educate yourself first before throwing rocks.

Yeah TXPO, sorry about that earlier.. I was very drunk and half baked. Sometimes my split personality gets the best of me. Ever see the movie Me, Myself, and Irine? Yep, thats how I am without my meds.

Sorry again for the confusion.

I have to agree with you SAPDtruone, I was considering SAPD or Bexar County for employment. I was given the run around by a lot of people/officers who say your (SAPD) department is the best department. So, I took the time to research both departments and found that they are equally qualified according to what I found.

I found that City receives about 8 to 9 months of Law Enforcement training with no required previous L.E experience, while the sheriff’s receive 4 months of Law Enforcement Training in their academy. Okay, I can see the difference there.

I also learned that a lot of your officers fail to recognize that sheriff’s deputies receive additional 8 + months training in police academies such as AACOG who also have as qualified instructors as city does, and they must obtain a jailer's dual license, which equals to another 4 months of training at their academy. Additionally, they are also required to work in the jail prior to patrol for two years. So, with that being said, I believe they are as qualified as any other officers with a total of 16 months of training, plus two years of jail experience.

Make a long story short, I was turned down for employment with the county patrol because of what you said, you must be license as a peace officer before getting hired.
