Another hit for Bandera County.
No supervision. Leave a child alone for the sake of arresting her mother? WTH.
The deputies said they wanted to avoid a confrontation with Constable Don Walters who supposedly is seeing the girls mother who just happens to be an emergency dispatcher with the Bandera County Sheriff's Office. Starting to see the picture now? The deputies just wanted the woman arrested and in jail. They feared if the constable got there he might try to take over the investigation. Soooooo they left the child and took off. The other deputy that was on the way just wasn't there yet. That can be seen from the first cars dash cam. Nothing appeared to be behind the woman's car as they drove off.
The dash cam on the car that was supposed to be watching the child just wasn't turned on. Smith originally said it wasn't working but had to change that to wasn't turned on. Audio only on the arresting officer's car so nothing was recorded of the actual talking between the deputies and the woman.
The brake light appears to be working fine as far as can be seen in the dash cam of the arresting officer.
Sad to put a child in the way of such stupidness for the sake of an arrest.
Bandera is gonna pay again but only a deductable. No huge sum of taxpayer money just insurance.
Call the chief deputy Richard Smith and ask him how many of these suits have been paid ogg in the last 8 years. It is amazing and you never hear about it.

now if the mother would of done that she would of been in jail and cps would of been called. so why not put the officers in jail for indangering a child?
