Your fourth "paragraph" from the bottom remains York County's greatest issue: we are a vile, backward place, riddled with cultural and economic incest that defies progress at anything other than a glacial pace.
"But we've made progress." ??????
Even a dead tree makes "progress" as it falls forward onto the forest floor.

Just read the comments to the York Dispatch's viewpoint section in reaction to a letter written entitled, "Obama:Not my President" by Charles C. Smith. It's disheartening that so many Yorkers live in the 50's with rascist attitudes and narrow minded beliefs, suspicious and fearful of anyone who is different.

According to them, Obama is a Muslim, was not born in the US and therefore is not a citizen and is some sort of conspiracy to brainwash us into chaos.

Negativity is alive and well in York County. Hopefully, they won't prevail and the optimism of the Obama Presidency will supercede their fear and inadequate expectations.

I love the argument that if you don't like Obama you must be a racist. How open minded from the liberal crowd.

Obama's race isnt an issue. Now being an underqualified socialist fraud, there's an issue.

Can we finally put the race issue behind us? Obama's election takes away the validity of a lot of excuses.

Dig a little deeper people; Obama has done us a great service. Aren't you just a little tired of the black racist comments of the reason they are disadvantaged is due to the white man? When I would post comments like they have to work hard for themselves to better themselves, I was greated with being called a racist myself despite Bill Cosby saying the same thing. They would say no matter what they would do that it wouldn't be enough because the white society had them shut out from oportunity. That age ended yesterday.

Now, all people of all races and backgrounds can say to their children that if they work hard, they can be anything they want; including President of the United States. There are no more limitations due to the color of their skin.

It also means that the black racists and dividers in our community will have to take a closer look at themselves and their excuses for not trying. Hopefully, the spirit of blame will die and a new era of cooperation and personal responsibility will emerge.

You must have been posting this while I was typing mine. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this.

Just curious; how many times in the last half century have the majority of York Countians voted for a "white" democrat for president?

Not the first black president YDR. Half-black and not the first with black blood. Guess you forgot about Andrew Jackson.

Ain't it funny that a common person with internet access can find so many facts so easily, but as usual the YDR can't or will not find or at least print the facts. Simple answer, because the facts usually don't support their storyline.
