If you have proof of wrong doing, the Nassau DA, who investigates matters of public corruption, might be interested.
Perhaps, I am just glad to be out of there. Although it cost me $5000. in fees and "Expaditor" expenses to do so. It would be a very easy investagation if the DA WANTED to! The fact of the matter is they don't want to....it's a complete disaster...everyone at the TOH building dept should be fired...From the RUDE/lying women at the application desk to the inspectors.

Here is a start DA, contact people who sold homes in Nassau in the past three years and move away, you will get all of the evidence you need !

I've got to be honest. That's the first rational post I've seen on this article. I don't read these "blogs" often but I saw the chain of them before this article was updated and most of the people who wrote should be ashamed of themselves. "Jew this" and "Italian Criminal that." I'm an Italian American who lives on Long Island with an undergraduate degree, two minors, an MBA, a great job, and enough verbal communication skills to wipe the floor with any one of you "bloggers." I happen to be staying up late getting extra work done so I am writing this comment. But some of us, I feel, need to spend less time
criticizing Town of Hempstead employees (and a case) that we know nothing/little about, and spend a little more time finding out the facts. And trust me, NO newspaper gives you the facts. Take that from an ex-journalist who had his articles mangled before they were printed.

As for the article in question, like the gentleman (Smitty) said, I think it's best to leave the case to the lawyers. Why not try reading about the bridge that just collapsed on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis? Six people were definitely killed. It puts a court case about some unsatisfactory (POTENTIALLY harmful) plumbing work into perspective. Doesn't it?

9-10 people could have died from dangerous electrical, plumbing and structural conditions, approved or inspections refused on a total of 3 homes: 2 in Merrick and 1 in Baldwin so far.

In all due respect the Newsday article would have had greater appeal if these homeowners died. It would have been called a senseless tragedy and these dangerous construction and inspection practices would continue.

Kate is just part of the political machine of the last republican governship the town of hempstead will ever see. Even the republican COMMITTEE MEN tell her what to do. She tried to do what is right but there are so many FAVORS owed out that she just cant stop them. She must be so ashamed as well and I bet she will move out of state soon enough. But when the property taxes soon sky rocket you all will be moving to. It is too late for the many good folks left in the town.

Sounds like someone targeted you and filed complaints. Did you receive violations first and then a DAT?

What are the summons for? If they are frivilous say so. Don't get pushed around by their system.

Toh District Court and their lawyers are a disgraceful abuse of taxpayer dollars. They prosecute violations of Toh Town Code. They spend between 12-24 months on most summons in order to collect between 0 & $250 in fines. The majority of the time if you speak to the Town Lawyer and correct whatever the complaints state they will either let it go or reduce the fine to 0-$25 depending on the infraction.

One Town Attorney stated, District Court and Town Code is an effect bluff at compliance. Now you know how some (which in total is a lot)of your tax dollars are spent and wasted.

can you help me with assistance on this, I have no knowledge of any of this and dont wanna spend thousands on fines.

What are the summons for? Were you issued a "Desk Appearance Ticket"? If so when are you supposed to appear in District Court? What is the story and situation? The adjournments are for months at a time, so you have time.

To see what the deal is with Town Code and the top fines, which I have never seen paid....go to www.townofhempstead.com (use the internet explorer - not AOL)and go to the tab for Town Board and click into Town Code. Go to Chapter 86 and start reading to educate yourself about the toh requirements.

Most people that could help you may offer only the benefit of their experience.

Have you ever gone into the TOH Building Dept and asked a question and got your head chewed off and been embarassed in front of everyone there for simply asking a question which as a taxpayer have every right to ask. I don't agree with the racial slurs being posted but you feel differently as your taxes are paying that persons salary.

Wow..finally found a site which talks about the corrupt town officials..
We have a tent that at least 80 houses in the surrounding town have, yet ours must be removed
we have been tossed from number to number..Dennis Dunne of Town of Buildings Department..comes to our house on "his vacation" to advise us that our simple tent needs to come down at once..with his hand out...hmmm..did he need lunch money?
Any ideas of what to do now?

DON'T PAY THE BRIBE. REPORT HIM TO THE NASSAU DA'S OFFICE. THE BUREAU IS CALLED "PUBLIC CORRUPTION". You can go to their website www.nassauda.org and file your complaint or go to the DA's Office in Mineola. Your timing is excellent. Don't waste too much time with Toh - Town Officials. You can try Kate Murray's Help Line on their website and by all means call the Chief Town Attorney Mr. Ra. Another option is to call 1st Deputy Building Commissioner John Rottkamp. Don't leave messages with the secretaries.

PS - If you are looking for a website (other than Newsday's forums) that discusses topics and gossips including corruption go to www.lipolitics.com - Scroll down and click on the Schwartz Report.

The above statement is all too true.He is is the most corrupt of them all.
No problem to work under his license. He used to charge $100.00 dollars
to use his license, the boys at the one time Long Island Water Corp. used him on a number of occasions. What a joke it is in the Village of Cedarhurst he is so corrupt and self serving it could make you sick. He and his sons have quite a scheme going on with the Cedarhurst Building Dept. The DA could have a field day with this investigation.

Only $100, why would a plumber or contractor bother to get a license if all you have to do was pay one Anthony or another to take out a plumbing permit. What a racket!! That is until someone's house or building goes KA BOOM!

Public Safety departments, such as the building departments should be renamed the Plumbers Vig!

Shame on these plumbing oops I mean public servants!

Funny how times have changed: TOH Town of Hempstead was at one time short handed and never proactive in Code Enforcement! Now they have too many Code Enforcement agents, and they drive around looking for Violations in the Town of Hempstead.

Racketeering?

No they are trying to generate revenue through Violations.
