I was beaten by hateful bigots, not once, not twice, but three times. Just for walking out of gay bars. I still suffer from their "ministrations" after almost 40 years. I have to go to the hospital about once a year from the lingering effects. I never in my life thought I would own a gun. I recently took lessons in the handling of a hand-gun, and purchased one. I carry it legally, just in case. I, like you, will never, ever submit to a beating like I took so many years ago. I now have no compunctions about taking the life of someone out to harm me.
I am proud of you. Life is precious. Never have remorse for taking a life of one who attempts to take yours. If gays were more vigilant like this hate crimes may go down some. Bigots look for a target that is weaker than them.
