Full story: Newsday

Truth be told, the establishments that line Freeport's Nautical Mile are not necessarily Long Island's finest seafood restaurants.

I strongly disagree with the fact that the Nautical Mile lacks a fine seafood restaurant! My favorite place to eat is at the gateway to the mile, E.B. Elliots. The menu provides a delicious range of creative, excellent food, from Kung Pao Calamari, to Salmon with Lobster mixed with potatoes and excellent steak that my husband raves about. I believe it was voted best on Long Island for steak dishes! The outdoor dining area in the summer offers fine clams, mussels and seafood. I would like to see Newsday put E.B. Elliots back on the fine dining map of the Nautical Mile!

this brings back great memories....my folks kept their boat in Freeport for many years. I now live in Albany NY area, and miss the smell and sounds of the ocean...terribly....Cape Cod is closer..but not the same....

How does this list even EXIST without Hudson & McCoy? I'ts the only place down there where I would actually order food....not just italian ice or a mojito.

EB Elliots is the only restaurant on the mile that is truly awesome. Everything else is low end, over priced, bad service and for the most part, just one long mile of tourist traps....do long islanders really eat here???

They are all over priced and over rated. Margo & Franks used to be my favorite after a few cold ones at the Sportsmen Cafe, Poop Deck, and Erhardts.
Otto's stinks. Bracco's is best for fresh seafood and cleavage <wink wink>

The Schooner, The Tides, Margo and Frank's Mermaid are the ones I enjoyed the most. As a kid we ate at Otto's where you could see Guy Lombardo's house across the canal. Does anyone remember Guy Lombardo's restaurant? Was it called the East Point Lookout? I remember fishing for blow fish off the pier in the Lombardo parking lot.

Take it from someone who worked there for quite a few years the kitchen is downright scary. In my experience working on the mile (also at Ottos..aka Ghettos)the only place with consistent good food is the Nautilus restarant. The rest take your chances but you'll surely get ripped off.

The seafood restaurants on nautical mile are way overpriced and the food is so-so at best. You will need to refinace to pay the bill after it arrives at your table. You want good seafood at a good price?,head for popeye's clam house in Bethpage.

Went to Riverside Grill, 1 waiter took drink order 1 waiter took appetizer order then after sitting a while A/hole manager/owner comes over asks if we ordered we said no one has been here yet, so he takes order, now how difficult is 4 simple orders to place? Well if he wasn't trying to pick up the 2 broads sitting behind us and feeding them wine maybe our order would have gone in. Order taken at 8:15...9:00 we ask where is our food then we are told oh be right out meanwhile several families have sat, ate, and left, food finally comes out at 9:25 only to be able to bounce the pasta it was like rubber, ziti pasta w/ shrimp smelled burnt, and salmon cold, not cooked we asked him to be honest with us and tell us he forgot to place the order but he denied it.There was no excuse for this on a Wednesday evening and not even busy, should have gone to Otto's as planned, so he took didn't charge us for the entrees big whoop at least we had the satisfaction of letting many people know of the experience What if we were Restaurant critics?
do it right or not at all

I've come to nautical mile forever and one place has been consistently good and not overpriced is Rachel's. Before it was Rachels it was Rangers with the beat Ranger burgers ever. I have gone to Blue42 very good, service started off well and then went down hill. Hudson & mcCoy overpriced and to me no big deal. Ottos the girl was right, yuck. Bracco's I always go there to get my fresh fish to take home and great soup and great fried prepared food. But for the money MY CHOICE is RACHELS!!!!!
