I love chico raised my family here and in business have done rather well, but there is the bad part which I,m sure its like many other small cities 1--our leadership 2--lack of officers 3--mecca for welfare 4--lack of jobs 5--a terrible animal shelter 6--lack of industry.

Actually Vern, crime is at an all-time low, Chico has had a balanced budget every year since this council took over in 2004, and despite the rest of the state and country going into economic ruin, Chico still is in the black and doing great.

Although we could use a lot more jobs, in this economic downturn when we are isolated from some of the other problems in the rest of the state, our recovery is our own and we've been doing a better than average job of that.

This council has DEFINITELY shown us they are not only competent, but that they are EXCEPTIONAL, beating out most other communities in this state. All of this during the time when we most depended on them.

Instead of whining about the campaign literature that the other idiots are sending out, you should check out the facts. The fact is that this council has kept Chico in the black EVERY YEAR and paving roads, reducing crime, making housing more affordable, cleaning up trash, fixing homeless problems, and beautifying the city all during the time when the Governor is raiding city coffers and the economy is at an 80 year low.

Reelect these extraordinary councilors Flynn, Gruendl, and Nickell. These guys have earned their stripes!

I guess whoever wrote the article praising Chico neglected to read the online ER comments from the bitter malcontents constantly spewing negativity about the town, the university, the students, and a host of other issues. If Chico were judged by the comments of these folks, we would be considered a town of pissed off anarchistic libertarians.

I love this town. I grew up a military brat and lived in many places. Did my Jr. High thru High school in the East Bay. Join the Air Force and lived in many towns. Trust me, this one of the best and it is why I settled here. Those who bad mouth this town do not know what it is like out there.

This is brilliant. Encouraging growth without providing extra jobs. Who are they trying to attract?

i lived here before and moved to Shasta county in late 2005. and now im back.

why? anyone who thinks that Chico is a mecca for welfare people obviously doesn't get out much. as far as degenerates go it's waaaaaay worse up north.

i feel alot safer in Chico and btw most of the problems i have noticed have been from outsider's.

overall this is a good community.
