UMMM...I'm a MTSAC student and have been on field trips - DMV checks ARE NOT done on all potential drivers....
This is not something MTSAC could have foreseen, though. crystal balls do not exist to predict what someone is going to do... God bless the young lady who lost her life... |

This is exactly why vehicle caravans are discouraged - if not forbidden - by many organizations. Drivers take too many risks and endanger themselves and others as they weave in and out in traffic trying to "keep up".
I disagree with the femme fatale above as this could have been foreseen as a possibilty. |

This is such a tragedy. Vehicle caravans are extremely dangerous. My high school swim coach had us do a caravan one rainy day when the bus never showed up. She slammed on the brakes and the truck I was in was rear-ended by another student. Luckily no one was seriously injured, but I've always been wary of caravans since then. That's why I have GPS in my car. You can't get too lost with one of those. Maybe Mt. SAC should invest in some of those to avoid situations like this.

Its possible that you coudl slip and fall in the shower, and break your neck. What preperations have you done to prevent that? We cannot expect people to predict the future. Unfortunately, you have to trust people to be careful when they drive (or else we would never allow our kids to finally get their license!) Unfortunately, you cannot control other people's behavior. Driver made a bad choice to pass at the time he did. His actions caused the accident and cost his classmate her life. Hindsight is 20/20. I pray for both - I'm sure he feels horrible (as long as he is a decent guy with remorse - I must give him the benefit of the doubt.) |

It's better just to set up several pre-arranged meeting points along the way, so that each vehicle can go at a reasonable pace, without the group ever getting too far seperated. Even if you did that, there's nothing to say a driver might not attempt a dangerous pass if he were behind a slow moving truck.
Femme Fatal, while the specific crash itself might not be foreseen, the dangers of driving in a caravan should have been. |
