It happened on October 31 at around 8:30 p.m. in a vehicle at a vacant fire station. The minor is unrelated to him, and they were the only two in the vehicle.

I feel so bad for his wife and his kids. May God have mercy on his soul.

Brian Cole should come clean and tell his side of the story because it looks pretty bad to be giving alcohol to a minor in a car in a secluded place......what was he thinking?

Brian has always thought himself better than everyone. He should fall to his knees and beg forgiveness, but I'm afraid Bakerites will want to make the whole thing go away

He taught my daughters at our church. I can't believe this.

people should wait for the complete story before jumping to conclusions.

Cole should give us the "complete" story. What we've heard is enough: Secluded firehouse with booze and a minor female. Conclusion: he's sick and needs help, if not jail time.

According to the Dept of Justice there are NO OTHER CHARGES other than the furnishing alcohol. That they were LESS than 2 miles from his house on a night when people were driving their kids all over to go trick-or-treating is a FACT and someone could, and did, drive by at any time. EVERYTHING outside of Baker City limits is secluded. Funny that those who don't know him are eager to assume all kinds of sordid stuff (you have SICK minds). And whatever happened to INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. You people are really pathetic.

Jill, you don't know what you are talking about. Did anyone notice that Brian's former church-mate and friend is Dean Barnes who was a youth minister in the same church and is now serving time for sex with a minor. Go figure. I guess birds of a feather...

The way I see it, a pervert finally got caught. Its just a shame that Oregon Dept of Justice (what a contradiction of terms) will cover it up and make it "go away."

Oh, and bye the way Jill, "Innocent until proven guilty" assumes that the justice system actually works...which in Baker City, it doesn't!!

Oh yeah, he was just "talking" to her. That's why he had booze in the car, right? He was "ministering" to her, right? Oh, maybe Jill is right: He was just helping the girl "trick or treat" at an empty firehouse. C'mon Jill. You are part of the problem in Baker City. Stop denying the truth to protect people you know -- Jill is probably a Nazarene.

Nope - not a Nazarene - but the bible says only GOD can judge - none of you seem to be Christian in spirit or deed as evidenced by your rantings.

This whole situation is unfortunate, but everyone does things they regret. I'm not trying to condone this, but it is no one's business besides his family and the girl's family.

Anon in Ptld,
And I suppose its no one's business if an adult is perving a juvenile? Only the business of the perv and we should respect his privacy? Get real!! If anything, he should be charged with intent to do whatever comes to mind... let's see... teenage girl... lonely location... adult male... alcohol... Yea, I guess you were right, he was just counseling her.

So the grand jury needs six more months? Oh, Brian, come clean. Profess your sins. Beg for forgiveness. You're a sick man.

Well, we waited Jill. "Pathetic" and "sick" as you described us to be. Maybe now you will use those words for the people that deserve to be described as such.
The latest on this "community leader" is that the state has filed a second charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor, and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse involving a 17-year-old girl ( http://www.bakercityherald.com/Local-News/Sta... ).
On Brian Cole's Orbis website it states his mission, values and meaning ( http://www.orbisgroup.org/overview_mvm.php ). I guess the meaning of "whole, complete, systemic" along with "integrity, partnerships and individual initiative" comes off with a different twist now.
An adult male pursuing a minor is EVERYONES business. It's criminal behavior. These guys LOVE teaching in churches. It's the perfect arena for their interests. Step one: gather the parents trust. Step two: abuse it. See article on Brian Cole's former friend Dean Barnes ( http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008... ). If my children had been under the supervision of either of these two slimeballs I would ask them if anything odd ever occurred.
As a Baker City citizen, I am not going to let this go away. No are any of those working very hard within the justice system. These cowards need to be removed from our society and exposed for the criminals that they are. Amen.

I'm with you, Bakerite -- don't let it go away.

Psalm 51 was good for King David. I pray Brian David walks through Psalm 51.

Sad and tragic is the fact that he may be praying it in prison or as a sexual offender for the rest of his life.

Even more tragic is that we have a generation of children feeding on a sex crazed culture who will be our community's next generation of leaders. Is anybody scared yet?

Small communities need great leaders, not more hypocritical ones. The fall of David led him back to God through honesty and sincere repentance and a full account for his actions. May it happen again.

And for the child who is a victim, and for the family that it destroys, and the never ending ripple effect of sexual sin, God have mercy.
