First I would get rid of the water and mud. Then the moisture and that means air circulation and somekind of heat. Going into a freezing temperatures you don't want wood to stay wet to long.

Also many are going to use bleach to avoid and kill mold. You don't need pure bleach. If you can smell the bleach in a bucket of water you probably have enough in there. But air circulation and ventilation is the key. That means keep the windows open as long as you can bear until you get freezing temperatures.

I'd would also look for cracked and warped structure along with the obvious. Check the condition of the big gas and electric appliances before use. It might pay to shut off the breakers to areas of the house that got wet but if your breaker box or fuse box got wet have it checked before touching it. You can buy electrical detectors at hardware stores the size of a big pen. Getting a person experienced with electric is the best solution.

Think immediate safety when surveying, fixing or moving back into your property.

Good Luck to all.

Has ANYONE seen a LIPA truck in East Moriches? I haven't. We are without power, like many others. Kudos to the town for being here the next day getting the trees cleaned up, branches out of wires etc. Wonderful job... So where is LIPA?
