I got a "pre-registration" card in the mail today for Georgia's Mainstreet Broadband which is apparently somehow subsidized by SPLOST funds. I was rather excited as I am really ready to tell AT&T to shove it. Plus, I thought I may get to save a few bucks. So I call them up and it turns out their plans don't start at $24.99/month like they say on the postcard, but $29.99/month. No biggie, so I tell her to continue. As it turns out the plan of theirs which is equal to AT&T's plan that we have already is $10.00 more a month plus a modem rental and I think there were some other fees but I told her to stop right there that she was already over what I'm paying now. What a waste. I don't know how the SPLOST funds are used for this or why they want this for our community. It isn't a bargain or competitive in any way, so I don't see the upside as to why we are getting it.

From what I have heard cable broadband is not offered; so this will be of no benefit to me. Anyone heard differently? Also I have no land line phones so I think I have just answered my own question, etc.

To Mainstreet:
I might note that if the customer service rep. doesn't know the correct info and gave me wrong information then I'm certain it will be like most all other companies and just infuriate me when I call in for support or service and they are neanderthal-like in solving any problems or issues. Why would I even want to CHANCE using such a company that can't get their ducks in a row as they enter into the market. A big, NO THANK YOU! |

Saw the comments from Wasted Effort. Just to clarify the pricing is correct on the post card - Main Street Broadband service starts at $24.99 in Decatur County. The total savings that Decatur County citizens will realize on internet service from the SPLOST funds will be up to $330 in the first year of service. The discounts cover all upfront cost to get set up and the modem rental in addition to the discount on service (which everywhere else starts at $29.99)

I got connected with Mainstream last week and have had nothing but trouble with it. They are coming out for the THIRD time today, and thats only because I told them to send someone again, they keep wanting to do the same "trouble-shooting" over the phone and it isn't helping. 5 minutes online, then it goes down for an hour, over and over again. anyone else having problems with it?
Thanks! So there will never be a modem rental charge added to the 24.99? Or will the start a rental charge after a certain amount of time? |
Oh my God... I hate to deal with those people. It seem like everybody hates to work there and does you a favor to wait on you. Stuck up as hell, they have a bad attitude. I'd rather keep the ATT DSL or even Mediacom. |

Has anyone gotten Mainstreetbb in Decatur County GA? I don't see any positive comments...
THAT alone will keep me from dealing with Mainstreet. Those folks always have acted really stuck up and rude to me. Wonder who on the county commission is in bed with Mainstreet? |

They bought out Coastal BB and I have had nothing but problems. I was paying Coastal $34.95 for 1 MBps. After they took over the price went up to $39.95. Down time is often. When they go down the service rep. talks you thru a 30 min. test of your equipment. I already know how to check my system, but they say there in nothing wrong with their system and they don't send any one to check the problem. I set up a bill payment to them with my bank. They changed their address and charged late fees because it took longer for the check to get there. They were very difficult to work with on any problem. Every thing is your fault, not theirs. I don’t have a land line. So I can’t get any other internet service, at that price. So I put up with them.
