I just found out that Redflex (the ones that service Kingsport and Mount Carmel) will be installing cameras on 11W in surgionsville and also on old 11W near Bellamy's Hardware. Eveidently this is something that surgionsville city leaders thinks need to be done to raise revenue. I for one will be voicing my opinion at the next town meeting. This is a huge outrage that demands a large outcry from the public to let city leaders (if we can call them that) know that we do not want nor need these in our city.

AMEN !!! The city (or the country road to Hicksville) should be de-annexed! The only thing we get for our tax dollars is trash pickup and I really don't think anyone would notice if we just dumped it on the ground. The so called City is a trashy joke. Just what do they spend the tax dollars they receive now on? The made up job positions because it is not spent on the roads or town. County taxes are high enough we need to be removed as a city because Surgoinsville is as rural as it gets. Surgoinsville is in the middle of nowhere and has nothing. It should definately be just part of the county and drop the serade of playing township.

I can't believe the taxes around here either. I am impressed that some of the obvious trash on main street has been cleaned up. It looks so much better.I don't think that the cameras on Main street are for speeding, the mules have that under control. They are actually for drug and crime surveilance . I am so disapointed, I went to the city meeting this month so I could support the blogger protesting Redflex. Where were you?

to WHY HERE, did you get this info from a reputable source? I hope that this city doesn't intend to spy on us with cameras. That seems like an infringement on our rights. Are they relly for speed violators ? I wouldn't think that there is enough traffic through Main st. to pay for the contraption.

There may not be enough traffic through main street to pay for the cameras and generate some revenue but there would be on Zion Hill..I'd be happy just to see a police cruiser parked on the side of the road once in a while handing out speeding tickets and warning motorists to slow down..

I know one of the county cops that works weekends. I will put a bug in his ear about Zion Hill road. He told me they were installing a camera on that road but it isn't a speed catcher. I am not sure why they would need a camera out there. Is there really that much traffic?

Just another way to bring in revenue with minimal exertion.

I think if they are in it for the money they should use their noggins and put those cameras where the traffic is,on the four lane. Who is the wise guy that said cameras were going to be in Surgoinsville anyway? I asked one of the alderman and he said that was rediculos. He says it has never been discussed. Do you people just make up this stuff to start a discussion? I am new to this. Also I am thinking about putting in a beauty-shop/nail-salon in the old Williams store building. Do any of you think it could be profitable? I have had different opinions, but was told I could get the building at a real deal.

we don't have a red light because we don't need one. There are no plans for cameras. This site was drummed up by a troublemaker that is upset because the police department relocated to main street. This community is a pleasure to live in. All the people I know are so friendly.

First the police need to take care of the speeders on Church Ave. You have young drivers that like to jump the hill coming down Church Ave at very high rates of speed. I have been looking for someone to get hit when they turn from one of the side roads or when they are coming out of their driveway. There are may youg kids and aduls that walk up and around the hill.
