Is there more to this story than the authorities are telling? Seems to me like if the teen is a passenger, they would have been careful not to strike her. The man was driving, therefore make the effort if need be to take him down, not the girl.?? Others agree? There just isn't enough info here, which is nothing unusual...

You are right. They should have politely asked the driver to stop trying to run them down. Gently escorted the female from the vehicle, and then let the driver resume running them down. Good plan. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sounds like the COPS went POSTAL.

i guess that's how they do it in greeneville.

Don't you think in a heated moment that they couldn't help who got hit??? Break the law = suffer the consequences. I am so over these criminals who put officers in danger and then get sympathy of all the bleeding hearts of our society. The average police officer does not have the specalized training to shoot someone in an exact spot. They do have sufficient gun handling and shooting capabilities though. This is just another incident where criminals think they can just do anything. |

I don't understand why cops don't simply shoot out the vehicles' tires, thus immobilizing the crooks. This would save a lot of lives.

You hit it right on the head!!! Obviously Janet has never been in a high stress situation, where split second decisions are required. |
|
Mary, that used to be a common tactic used by police in a pursuit, then the "I will sue you for anything" age came in to play. An officer shot at a tire and missed, it then struck an innocent bystander. Well, you can imagine what happened after that. This is the reason for most departments not shooting at tires anymore. |
|
Yea, that's what i'd do if I saw a 5000lb hunk of metal bearing down on me. The crook would never risk riding on his rims and ruining them. Of course he could just go ahead and run over me and then pull over. Shoot, he could run over a few more cops before all the air left his tires. Then he could pull over and Voila! No ruined rims! Actually, If I were in the car with some lunatic and saw cops with guns drawn I think I would DUCK....but then, that's just me. |

It never ceases to amaze me how people will automatically criticize the police. They are blinded by hate, and a smug sense of superiority.

I see. Thanks for the information. |

Geez - are you really that stupid or do you just post on here to hack everyone off? Do you realize most cops do good just to hit the car? So Mary are you voting for Hilary cause you probably think she is smart? Even if you just watch Cops, you would realize that crooks drive for MILES and MILES with their tires completely gone until the rims catch fire! Shooting out tires does not immobilize a vehicle. Shooting the driver in the head usually does a good job though! Maybe you would prefer that we give cops .50 cal BMG rifles that will actually take out the engine reliably! People who run from the law and endanger their own and other innocent lives take the chance of it ending badly for them. About 20% of chases end with a vehicle crash and many cause injuries. |

Thank you Ann for not jumping to conclusions and not being judgemental. |
Can anyone explain why this is not done? |
|

Never mind about my last quetion about the tires.
That 20 year old kid seems like a real trouble maker. He obviously did not care about his girlfriend, just his own ass. Stupid shit! |

why is it every time the police shoot someone its alway there them in trouble they were running from the police not the police running from the bad guy,
|
|
What part of the above replies didn't you understand? |
|
I think Raneesha explains it pretty well two posts above yours..... If someone has committed a crime and tries to flee from the police, then they are endangering the lives of innocent people... bystanders, police, other motorists, whatever... and that is a justification to use deadly force to prevent that. There is a reason for fleeing..... outstanding warrants, illegal status, stolen vehicle, intoxication, whatever... I don't want my family to be a victim of the criminal's stupid actions. Glad they took them out before someone else was hurt or killed. |

So in the heat of the moment in a hostaege situation, take everyone down? I am merely stating precautions should have been taken to get the driver, not the passenger. |
