Residents in a small Adams County community are wondering how and why a Friendship woman died almost two weeks ago. The Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune is reporting 52-year-old Mary Johnson was stabbed and found at her home May 29.

The facts are sketchy, but Adams County Sheriff Roberta Sindelar says her department is investigating it as a suspicious death. She wouldn't confirm that Johnson was stabbed, although the Daily Tribune says she gave them that important detail.

Sheriff Sindelar also says they hadn't received any reports of domestic violence from the home Johnson shared with her husband. With such little information, people around town are talking.

"Well, I don't live but a couple miles from here. I was a little concerned," Friendship resident Earl Nahmens, Jr. says. "It's kind of a small community. We don't get a lot of this kind of stuff, you know. Thank goodness."

But the sheriff says they don't have to be worried.

“If we knew, thought the public was in danger, we would have went and notified them, but no, they are not in danger at this time," she says.

Sheriff Sindelar says they are working with the district attorney on the case, but at this point there are no criminal charges.

There was a murder of a young woman back in 1982 I believe. I can't remember the woman's name, but I was told she was buried in some kind of land fill, or construction site. I'm not sure of that information, but I do know she was found in something like it. It's been so long ago that I don't even remember her name. I do remember it being quite tragic and had a huge impact in Adam's County, WI. If anyone knows anything about this, please lend some information. I can't remember if this murder was solved, and it's important to me to know any information, especially if the murder remains unsolved.

Nothing has happened. I'm friends with Mary's brother. They have a new Sherrif and he hasn't done squat either. I contacted the paper here around the 1yr annv. and they didn't want to do anything. They did reprint and said there was nothing new. They know who did it They called it a "Domestic homicide". I can't say everything I know but you don't need to have an IQ above 60 to figure it out. The person did not cover his tracks very well. Just so it gets out the first Sherrif put the husband up in a real nice hotel instead of keeping him in jail for 78 hours. Talk was the sherrif was familiar with the husband. Considering there was only 2 people in the "Domestic" situation and one of them is dead? Not a very long list, Right?
I wish people would start calling the Sherrif and the paper, start asking question's. The Husband showed up very soon after the murder with a new girlfriend. The family does not live here so maybe if area people start hounding something will be done.

Lesa's comments border on slander when she does not know the real facts of the case.

In reference to the Adams County Death last year. Lesa claims she has inside information. I would love to know what it is. Apparently he didn't have to "cover his tracks" since they haven't found any evidence or arrested him or charged him with any crime. It was obvious to anyone that knew or met Mary that she was not playing with a full deck. My insider information was that she had been talking suicide prior to this incident and in hindsight her actions leading up to her death indicate this also. The sad thing is that no one beleived she would really harm herself until it was too late.

Gee, I keep waiting to hear about all this insider information. Personally I think that ought to look much closer at the only person who benefitted from this and it wasn't her spouse.

i live across the street from the adams county courthouse and am very familier with law enforcement here. They seem to spend all there time "investigating" drunk driving and bar mayhem instead of murder, are you kidding me? solve a murder? what about Kim Brown? Ed Gein? which borders adams, how many people were killed before they met their demise? enough, so to act as if anyone is surprised that there is an unsolved murder in this county, quit being so naive.

I see you been there. Yup, creepy weird people, My toothless sociopath of a mother lives there, in Big Flats. Anyway, Kim Brown was the guy they claimed killed all of those women in Adams, Sauk, Juneau (and possibly Columbia) counties, it's been awhile. That area is so funny, if there is another serial killer on the lose (yeas the area is prone to them, I believe it's the isolation factor, it will not be a news item until a tourist takes it to the public. At least that's what I remember from the last time. My uncle was killed up there in Big Flats, blunt force trauma to the back of the head, Sheriff's office thinks it was suicide.
