Brewer said it was still dark outside and the girl was not in a crosswalk when the truck hit her. She was on her way to her zero-period class at Gladstone High, he said

What in the world is a ZERO-PERIOD class? Is that a fancy name for Detention?

zero period is an extra class students can take to be ahead in credits to graduate or because they have 2 elective classes(example leadership, band, sports, etc.) which in that cases shorts them out a madatory class so they choose to go to school an hour earlier to do get those classes in, so dont judge. and note to yourself, detention hours havent changed from when you were in school moron, detention is still after school.

zero period starts at 7am, think to yourself zero comes before one so that must be first...stupidity.
my thoughts and prayers are out for her and her family.

Geez, did someone get out of the wrong side of bed or what? Not everyone has children in school!

I hope the young girl will be ok!

My best wishes to this girl. I hope she recovers fully and is not in too much pain. Again, I want to appeal to people to please slow down and be more careful, especially in residential areas and near schools.

Always look both ways before crossing. Even at crosswalk, make sure the cars slow down before blindly just walk across the streets.

a zero period class is a class you can take in a particular subject before school starts at 7:55. I go to the same school as the her.

Jerk- Zero Period is usually attended by the 'brighter kids' wanting to get ahead. Obviously something you never did!

All frickin cars do is kill and maim people. Rumbling polluting, rat - mobile , death machines. They don't do a damn good thing for nobody.Gets lazy pigs from one place to another.I hope the girl makes it, Watch these damn cars at all times. Drivers are speeding and couldn't care less. The girl did not look both ways most likely. I always make sure to look both ways 3 or 4 times. Double - check. Because on your first check something might not get seen because of a blind spot. Check 3 or 4 times. You could still look both ways and get hit because you missed the damn car on the first check. Always be careful because the speeding drivers don't give a damn.I hope the girl makes it.

This is what I have noticed in the last few years. Pedestrians don't always look before they cross the street. They act as though they have a magic bubble that surrounds them, and will keep that vehicle from hitting them. They do not look, do not make eye contact with drivers, do not wait, just walk blindly out into traffic. I would point this out to my kids, showing them the INCORRECT way to cross.

I live on Enid, right where the accident happened and was awake at the time so I went outside. This is sad for all involved, the victim and the driver. The driver has a daughter about the same age and he is very distraught too.

I also know the girl. Her name is Stephanie Padilla.

Anyhow, she is still in the hospital and remains in critical condition. She has undergone several surgeries and remains on life support as of this morning, it is touch and go.

She is NOT a bad kid. She was going to her zero period class for school, not detention.

We ask that you please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. This is a very difficult time for them all.

As of late last night they hospital has said that they will keep her on life support for 5 days, if she does not respond they will remove the life support to see how she responds.

Please pray for Stephanie & her family!

Oh, and for those of you talking about not looking before crossing. The police report will not be concluded for another 2 weeks. It IS possible that the driver did not have his headlights on. He was also a nearby neighbor. It's still dark at 6:20am. If he didn't have his headlights on she would not have seen him coming, just as he said he did not see her. Please don't judge or say cruel things, when there is a life at stake.

I see people walk across when the crosswalk light just turn red. They do not even care to hurry up, they walk slowly across while all the cars wait on them like they owned the street.

I also a lot of idiots just run across the street at night while cars are zooming by instead of using a crosswalk.
