But, isn't the question will an ESD provide better service and support than just the department? Before I voted i have to weigh the money against service. I am just asking because it seems opinions are many and I don't know. Maybe I should talk ti someone who lives in an Esd area.

If I understand correctly they have already closed down the VFD so an ESD is the only option. There WILL be a tax increase unless citizens come together to save their VFD.
Now how is it "better" service when the volunteers will still be the ones working it. I read that there won't be any paid fire fighters at SCFD unless the need arises. In other words unless all the volunteers leave. It isn't better service. The only benefit is that the ESD has more money than God to run the dept with. Also, once the ESD is in place there is no going back to a VFD. The ESD takes all the VFD's equipment over too. So if SilverCreek citizens ever decide they want to get away from ESD they will have to start from square one with a brand new VFD. But as the county has currently shut down the VFD the only question left is "which ESD to go with?". Idk which is better but I will tell u that Commissioner Conley is trying to get ESD 1 to take over EVERY VFD cuz the county doesn't want to deal with fire service anymore. It is my belief that Conley must be getting some sort of kick back from ESD 1 as hard as he tries to push it off on every city. Good luck SC citizens. U will need it.

I have personally battled ESD 1 and won but it wasn't easy. I have several reasons that I dont like ESD's if anyone has any questions let me know. If I don't know the answer I can find out for u. But just know that the VFD is shut down by the county so u will either have no fire protection or u will have an ESD. Idk how they consider it a vote. U really have no options. It's horrible the stuff this county gets away with.

Actually, I found it on www.topix.com/forum/city/reno-parker-tx so I believe that makes it a Reno, and Parker County forum. And i do believe Silver Creek is in Parker County, so idiots go away. Don't count on an ESD having better service than anybody. A couple of years ago on July 4 there was a fireworks related fire and ESD 1 was called, by the time they arrived some of the neighbors had hooked up water hoses and had the fire pretty much under control. They increase your taxes by .10 on the hundred and you don't see much of what your money pays for. ESD or VFD, I'll take VFD every time.

I agree. But I have had such a battle with ESD #1 that ppl just think I'm being petty. I try to explain all that they do (or should I say "don't do") but it's so bad it sounds as if I'm making it up. Really if anybody wants to hear the truth about ESD's I will be happy to school u on it. U WILL be shocked

You don't have to explain to me, I have seen what they do or Should I say don't do with my own eyes. Won't name names but we have a couple of elected officials that hate VFDs and would run them out of Parker County if they had their way. Personaly I think ESDs are a joke, a bad one but a joke on the citizens of Parker County none the less. If you can save your VFD, you won't like ESD.

I have been told silVer creek vfd does not have enough staff to safely respond. And for ESD value, it is the VFD"s who start the petition drives to have ESD. So firemen in good VFDs are trying to make them better by giving citizens a voice in the process.

B.S. I don't know where you get your facts, but it is not the VFDs who start these petition drives. The firemen in good VFDs try to make them better by training and upgrading equipment, and citizens do not get a voice in the process, merely a choice between a VFD or a ESD. After that it the process is governed by the fire protection you choose. If you opt for a VFD they seem to be responsive to their communities thoughts and wishes after all they are your friends and neighbors. If you choose the ESD they answer to the county and couldn't care less what you think. I have no idea whether or not Silver Creek has enough staff to respond, so you must do what is best for the protection of your community. If that is an ESD, so be it. Pay yout ten cents on the hundred and prepare to let the county to run it the way they see fit. Good luck.

I actually researched the issue and talked to some firemen who helped start the ESD. Seems every one has been started by a VFD or several VFDs together. I also asked who is in charge of the ESD: the answer was a board appointed by the county as required by state law. After the appointment, the board runs the ESD and set the budget and sounds the money on the departments in the ESD. These firemen like the idea of more available funds to train and have equipment. So, I got my ifacts straight from firemen across the county they I met.

Again B.S. sounds good but not so. Dissatisfied firemen maybe, the politics and personal agendas in some of these are unbelievable. Also any board appointed by the county is controlled by the county.
I also have talked to firemen from across the county, so you see one can hear anything. I live in an area covered by a VFD, when those who favored an ESD tried they couldn't come anywhere near close to enough signatures to even get it on the ballot. One reason the ESD charges us the full ten cents on the hundred allowed by the state, and we know that if the state ever allows twenty or twenty five cents on the hundred that is what we will pay. That doesn't even take into consideration the run fees the town or community must pay per run the ESD makes you know kind of like double dipping if you will. Alsop I do know for a fact that the story told by Texas is true. If that had been a house fire they would have been too late. So the choice is yours for myself I will Count on and Support the VFDs. My friends and neighbors with ties to my community. And you sir can can believe what you want, and do what you think best. You have that right in a free country.

Agreed we both have right to believe as we see fit. I appreciate your comments I will continue to talk to others about it. And it is good to hear different opinions without name calling which seems to be the norm on these forums

Name calling accomplishes nothing, other than creating hard feelings and animosity, I did vote for some of the county officials that want to be rid of the VFDs something that will not happen again. One of them My family calls friend that will not change, but we will not vote for him again. Friendship and politics do not mix. At this point I just do not trust the county or the ESDs. My problem I know. Thanks for your input.
