With all the controversy over the King William reservoir. And the Motocross track. I think our county advisors and residents have more important issues that need to be addressed. Like our school busses. I have a daughter in King William High School. And I refuse to let her ride the school bus due to the amount of children already on that bus.
I have checked with VADOT and there is a MAX allowed to be on a school bus and if children are sitting 3 to a seat (which they are) then that is a clear vilotation of the DOT laws reguarding amount of occupants allowed on a passenger bus. Also this bus I am talking about has a rout that takes almost 1 1/2 hrs to complete. When I addressed this concern to the school board the reply I recieved was about how much new busses cost. What is it going to take? Some of our children getting hurt? I hope to god it doesn't come to that.
Speak up for our children and make this county address the real concerns. Our childrens safety, Not if someone likes how much noise a dirt bike makes

R.W. Self,
I could not agree more about the bus situation.
My Acquinton 5th grader had to sit on the floor the first couple of days of school, until the could adjust the routes. Looks as if the new football field was more important, than the safety of our children. Maybe we should reconsider who makes decisions on the School Board, I beleive one member is heavily involved with the motocross issue right now.

bhappy- we dont want motocross on the streets where it is illegal and unsafe. thats why we want the track. Do you think it is funny the buses are overcrowded and dangerous for the children of KW to ride?

I go to hamilton holmes and my bus has 3 kids to a seat and about 11 kids standing up but the football field looks nice even though they have to dig it up because they did the sprinklers wrong, like any other kw project= halfway.

Sure you go to Hamilton Holmes Katie. That is why your comments are immature, about this subject and the motocross subject. Sounds like you have a parent feeding your head full of bull.

Sounds like Katie has the only first hand account of this subject. I appreciate her telling us how it really is.

What is immature is an "older person" giving her grief for stating her opinions, just because they don't agree with her own (on another thread, no less). Then accusing her parents of essentially lying to her? You're not full of bull, but that's close.

I also have a first hand acount of the overcrowded buses, I have a child who sits three to a seat, and who has also sood up on the bus.
the immature part was directed to her comment and threat on the motocross subject. And yes when you read her comment you wll realize how immature she is.If her parents are feeding her bull on the motocross subject, I am sorry for her to be parented in such a way. The same parents are feeding my childs head with their bull on a sport they no nothing about.

First hand means you witnessed it. Anything you hear from anyone else is hearsay.

Its rude to carry arguments from one thread to another, and worse to disparage one's parents because they hold different opinions.

For your info I have witnessed it , I put my child on and off the bus. I do have eyes to see with.It is rude to make judgements and comments that hurt others with no facts to back them up.

A substitute bus driver for my childs bus, took it upon herself to turn the bus around twice on RT 600 wednsday. She missed a bus stop , so she turned into a drive and backed into 600 on a blind hill. Do you hear me a backed into 600, ran over a mailbox, coulnd"t get the bus turned around
then pulled forward backed into a field, When she finally got back to the stop she missed, she pulled into another drive and backed into 600 again, this time in a blind curve. I would not back my car on 600, nuch less a bus. Does she realize when the bus was sitting sideways across the whole road, a vehicle could have slammed into the side of the bus and possible killed children?

As for the incident on route 600, I have only hearsay to go on, if it indeed happened the bus driver needs to be held accountable. The drivers
of these buses carry our most precious cargo. Did the driver get any reprimand? Driving a school bus is a great responsibility, and I am almost sure that the drivers know this when they are hired. Our children are our greatest asset, and
in King William, they are riding up and down the road in buses that are old, and in some cases unreliable. Maybe the school board member who is so engrossed with the motorcross track, should pay more attention to their duties for which they were elected.

So if you're elected to the school board, you loose your constitutional right to free speech on any other topic not related to the schools?

(I'm not sure if the school board member is for or against, but they should be held accountable for how well they do their job, not their political position on other issues).

Maybe we should start a whole new topic on the
issue of school board members, and get the KW citizens opinion as to wether they are doing a good job.
What other concerns do we have in the county that are related to our children and the schools?

Have you gone to any meetings concerning the over crowding of school buses? I would highly advise parents and the public to attend these meetings. They work for you, BOS and School Board. TALK that is what the forum is for....take the giant leap of faith and get involved in your communities.
