Getting tired of all the short sighted, narrow minded politics in town. If the Selectmen got the Middle HS project approved, Shirley would pay 100% of the remaining cost for the Middle School which would be converted to an Elementary School for up to an additional $3M (100% on Shirley). Here is an opportunity to allow Ayer taxpayers to pick up more than half of the remaining debt and the Selectmen decide not to recommend favorable action. The last time an agreement came up to amend the Regional Agreement to push more cost to Ayer the Selectmen also voted against it.

I can't understand how the Selectmen can vote against reducing the costs and debt in the town that they represent. If the High School project is voted down Shirley continues to pay 100% of the Middle School costs. If the article is written and is a benefit to Shirley they all should unanimously approve the article. If the HS project fails then it would be time to find a new way to share the costs with Ayer rather than try to obstruct lowering Shirley taxes

I'm getting tired of the short sighted and narrow minded politics by the BOS. This will be the second time they have opted to not support a change to the regional agreement to reduce Shirley's costs. The last amendment was to give Ayer a higher portion of the assessment which would lower the cost to Shirley. That was voted against by the board, now we have the same opportunity and no favorable action.

Since we have chosen to regionalize we understood that a school project would be needed and it sounds like we will have a HS only project. It is good to see that the School Board is also considering a fair way to divide the existing costs for the Middle School with Ayer based on this design. I could understand Ayer not being happy with paying for the middle school, but can't see how our BOS would be against sharing the costs with Ayer to help our town.

If the HS project fails, then get with the School Board and Ayer to figure out a different solution. Find solutions to our financial issues and stop trying to block others who are at least trying. What value has our new Administrator brought to us other than a larger salary? I hear lower choice out costs and pushing costs to Ayer from the Schools, what does the BOS have to offer to reduce Shirley's costs? Stop saying NO to everything.

Another override, more spending, it never ends. When do we see economic development instead of tax and spend?

No override has been requested. The proposal would be funded via a debt exclusion if the towns approve of it. This would not be a permanent property tax increase (override) rather this would function like a loan with a fixed term and end date.
