John Last does it again! Check out John's big story on the community college today. John still doesn't seem to realize that Rethink Erie and the Regional Chamber are the exact same group!

John reports on it as if Rethink Erie is an entirely separate and independent organization!

Never mind the fact that Rethink Erie and the Regional Chamber share several of the same employees; share the same phone number; and share the same fax number!

This is responsible reporting?

I saw that, too. I've seen several reports by John where he fails to mention the connection. It's dispiriting, to say the least, when a local reporter allows himself to be used by those with an agenda.

Maybe John is hoping for a job at the new college after it opens?

Maybe John Last believes those two groups really are different entities? Maybe he isn't the brightest candle in the candleholder?

I've worked with John. He's a good guy and a good reporter. There are a lot worse in Erie than John....try watching the other stations. Just a bunch of college kids with NO experience.

So what your saying is a collage kid with no experience is a worse reporter than someone who knowingly does not fully investigate/report the story he is working? Seems to me that both fall short of the industry standard. But hay, as long as he is a good guy.

Yes the chamber and rethink share a location and many of the same people, but they have branded themselves as an initiative of the chamber and as a standalone entity focused on the community college. I know the stories I have seen John does not mention the chamber but does call it a collaboration of local leaders, which is really all it is.

"Rethink Erie is a partntership of business, government, philanthropic and economic development groups launched by the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership to help access the need for a community college."

That's called responsible reporting, John.

Try and learn it instead of doing countless stories where you portray Rethink Erie as an independent organization.
