That is really a sad situation. Most children grow out of temper tantrums before the age of six. This child definately needs to learn how to control her temper/behavior. Training, ofcourse, begins at home. Unfortunately, there is not a parenting manual that explains "How to be the perfect parent."

I think the officers were extreme in handcuffing and charging the little girl. I am sure they are hoping that she will learn something from the experience. I just hope they (the officers) took the time to explain to her the reason for the handcuffs and the arrest. I also hope they refered her parents to agencies that can help the little girl deal with her temper.

There is NO reason to cuff and book a toddler for a tantrum!!!

Why weren't parents called? What kind of teachers get bullied by a toddler? What kind of discipline does this kid need if this is the norm? If she has a condition such as ADHD or bipolar, then she needs her meds...otherwise she needs a good swat on the tush. NOT a beating, before someone goes name-calling!

First, a 6 year old is NOT a toddler. Second, if anyone including a teacher gave my child a swat the police would need to be called. Third, the last few years I've noticed lots of children believing they're in control, because the adults in their lives let them. The police was an extreme. I hope the parents were called, but if the child could not be handled by the teacher she should've been suspended not arrested. If this was an on going situation and everything else had fail in the pass, I can see it as an eye opener for both the child and her parents. I don't know the whole story so I can't judge that teacher. From the little I know the most extreme for a 6 year old should've been being sent home from school.

That is the problem with children today. If they act up call the police. If the teacher disiplines the chid the police are called on the teacher. Back when I was in school and acted like this the teacher would have paddled my butt and be sure I would have got my butt tore up when I got home and there would be no calling 911 on my parents. That is what is wrong with this nation right today.

I stand by my swat on the butt comment. With my kids I wouldn't expect a teacher to do it, but I certainly would.

And "toddler" applies to kids from walking age up to 6, pediatrically speaking (that is, according to my pediatrician).

"Learn something new every day". Sure didn't know a 4, 5, much LESS a 6 year-old-is a "toddler".

I think arresting a 6 year old is extreme. If the kid is that hard to handle, they don't belong in school. It's called suspension. The parents created the monster, they should be the one's dealing with it, NOT the teacher, NOT the other students. There are alternative schools for discipline problem kids. If that school/teacher can't handle the kid, and if the parent is unwilling, the school district should explore other options. Although, maybe this will give the kid a much needed slap in the face. I hope so, anyway.

I feel that the school should have been able to handle a 6yr old tantrum, the parents should have been called and not the police. I feel this is a little past outrageous!! Who knows what the child is experiencing to act out like that, but submitting her to a criminals aspect of life is a bit much. So how does the child view police officers now? I guess she wont be enrolled in the DARE program huh?

In the blog the last word should be "enforcement".

We as a nation are to blame for actions that were taken in this like many other cases we here about. The media in general has put it out there for everyone to see and we as a country have decided that it is atrocious to paddle a child

Sucessful lawsuits by money hungry lawyers with liberal spineless judges have created what we see in society as our children taking over.

We have teachers sexually abusing our children, You want them to spank them too? NO thanks.. I'll be in control of my kids and if they do something wrong you BET I will be there supporting what's in their best interest for succeeding in life. I won't be one of those parents that enable them to believe that the world is at fault.

This is a shame. I'm not sure that they should have gone to this extreme. Isn't expulsion better than this for a little girl? She is only 6 years old for goodness sakes. Kick her out of school and let the parents deal with it.
