We used to love to surf fish at Oregon Inlet. Why do they have it closed!!!

We were down there in June also and it really upsets us to know that it is closed. When will all this change?

who knows...they are saying they are doing this to protect the birds...they always roped of the areas for the nesting birds and it was never a problem...keeping these areas open has been a constant fight for a couple of years...another politically powered group is throwing there weight around...sorry

I am a Native of these Outer Banks, Kinnakeet which was changed to Avon in the 40's. FRANKLY, and personally I'm very, very happy to see that EMPTY POINT as I cross the bridge! You people have come down here, taken over, RIPPED THAT BEACH AND ALL DRIVABLE BEACHES TO UTTER SHREDDS for as long as I can remember! Good Grief! EMOUGH IS ENOUGH OF YOUR GARBAGE YOU LEAVE BEHIND, your bossy attitudes like we OWE YOU SOMETHING JUST BECAUSE YOU MIGHT SPEND A FEW CRUMMY DOLLARS here? I only pray these beaches NEVER REOPEN! OH! ONE MORE THING.... DON'T COME BACK WITH, "If it wasn't for OUR MONEY SPENT here, YOU PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LIVE!' Hey, we survived A LONG, LONG time before you " TOURONS" starting coming here and MAULING US!! So, STAY HOME and find some place else to ruin!

Kinnaketer,
You will be happy to know I have stopped. I was one who enjoyed the beach at North Point and loved to fish from there on down. I made sure I always took more trash off that I took on. I did my best to be a good guest. I stopped going down when I met a person with your attitude that screamed at me for 15 mins about what I was doing to "his" beach and how I was depleting "his" fish and I was running up the price of everything on "his" island. I decided I didn't to contribute the the economy of North Carolina if that was the attutude. So may your tourist industry dry up and blow away. By the way, as per the Dept of Interior, closing the larger areas they have the last several years has done nothing to increase the birds overall nesting success.

I am a person who respects nature and despises litter or tearing up the beach. While it's true that tourons, as natives call them, can wreak havoc, please don't clump every tourist into that category. In fact, my displeasure with the Outer Banks has arisen due to its politics and overt bigotry regarding outsiders. Fine to take tourist money and whatever other favors the tourists present to your cloisters. I've seen and experienced it. I know. So don't just pin the tourists as the selfish ones. Your native antics illustrate what give and take is all about, giving just enough so you can take whatever you want! Enough with the BS. The tourists have given you money you would NEVER have otherwise and you know it.
