Ferries Halted, People Stranded at NC's Ocracoke

State transportation officials suspended all ferry service to Ocracoke Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks on Saturday, leaving hundreds of residents and guests no way to reach higher ground as Hurricane Sandy threatened the coast with heavy winds and rain.

WOW! I guess I was luckier than most as I got off Ocracoke on Saturday on the 7AM ferry to Hatteras. Actually I guess I was even luckier as I was able to drive all the way to Kill Devil Hill on NC 12 with no problems. Although I will say that the Ferry boat ride was definitely an "E" ticket ride! Considering there was a big wedding planned for Saturday that count of the stranded must be a big number. Hope all of you who are still stranded get home safe.
