What happened to them? Did the USDA shut them down?

It appears, according to a story in the Brockton Enterprise (online) dated August 18, 2010 that they closed their doors in the dead of night, leaving participants with no money or the food packages they purchased and leaving their suppliers on the hook for thousands of dollars.

I was with the original organization as a volunteer over 20 years ago when it was known as Share New England. Share split off, according to what we were told, as they went the political route, thereby Serve NE was born.

They started a downward spiral a little over a year ago - their food packages got more expensive, the quality became substandard and they were taken over by some religious zealot, rather than the original premise of being non-sectarian.

What disturbs me most is the salaries that I'm just now finding out they were making. During my tenure, the group I was with was 100% volunteer and we worked exceptionally hard to ensure everyone got their packages. Such a shame.
