This angers me.. We pay these people to enforce our laws and a creep like this tries to kill a trooper by blunt force to the head, then by choking and more blunt force. Thank god she lived.. Now the question? Will he be charged with attempted murder of a police officer? Or will we feel sorry for him?

I understand your frustration, but the charges came from the state police, not the prosecutors. They, alone, made the decision to charge him with lesser crimes. Now the question; Why? Since they conducted their investigation into this incident, I would imagine they have information you and I do not.

The prosecutor makes the FINAL decision and can change or modify any charge.

I agree, she had every right to use deadly force in this case. I don't expect police officers to be super human, but we give them tools that they should use.

The only charges filed today were for resisting, battery, and HTV. The prosecutor did make the final decision. I guess, for those who are frustrated, you always have the right to vote. Use it.

Being from Colorado we're shocked at how lenient your prosecutors are with charging criminals. What they are doing with this guy is either corruption or plain chicken $%&@.. What would they have done if she shot the guy? Imprison her?

As long as you remember that its the prosecutors and judges who condone this type of behavior! As a life long hoosier, I am appalled every time I read the paper and see thugs let loose for serious crimes. Indiana courts have become a playground for strong defense attorneys and weak prosecutors. Nothing new, but I think most of us are as shocked as those from other states. WE do NOT condone the criminal element. We just need to vote more intelligently!

I see what you mean. My husband and I have been following the story of the 88 year old woman who was severely beaten in her home by teens. She lost site in 1 eye and has numerous broken facial bones from the extreme force used against her. They were obviously trying to kill her to prevent her from being a witness. Nowhere have we read where they will prosecute them as adults, nor charge them with attempted murder. I can't believe anyone in their right mind would show any sympathy for these pieces of trash. I wonder if the police feel like its a waste of time to even make arrests in many of these cases.

Most cops I talk to try to do the job without thinking about the courts too much. They know the sympathy and leniency will prevail in court, but they can sleep knowing they at least took someone off the street that can't kill or rob for the night anyway. It is possible that the elderly victim's case is being handled by the same prosecutor, but I haven't heard much else.

Being a cop around here wouldn't pay enough for me to do it. It is sooooo sickening to see this "sympathy" or whatever it is....in the courts!

Has anyone heard whether this woman was ever released from the hospital? Or what the creeps were finally charged with?

Last I heard, she was stable, with numerous surgeries, mostly facial awaiting her future. She barely survived the attack. On a sickly note, the charges did not reflect the violent nature of the attack. Battery causing personal injury?

Like drunk driving for example.. My friend was killed a few years ago by a man with a history of driving drunk. My friend made the mistake of coming home from work on the same state road that the drunk was driving on. His wife and kids were devastated, yet the court gave the drunk a chance at being back on the streets "with a license" in about 5-6years. That is the same sentence we should use for 2nd time offenders who "don't" kill!! Why cops even bother arresting drunk drivers is beyond me. They are wasting valuable time with people who will just be slapped and released to do it again, while emergency services suffer while the cop is doing his paperwork.

I see nothing amusing about his statement. Am I missing something? I supported MADD before it was a popular group to try to educate people about the dangers of driving under the influence. On the education side, we have accomplished our goal years ago. Everyone who drinks knows the consequences of driving drunk. I agree with the post in that I really don't support the court's position in Indiana of a laid back approach to sentencing.

He isn't trying to be funny. He will be the first to cry wolf, stating that he didn't know what ramifications his actions may have had..after the fact! "I just had a few beers". "I thought I was ok to drive". BS..This is 1960's thinking, before people knew full well what the results would be if they drove drunk. Anyone who drives drunk, knows fully what the consequences could be and accepts that fact. I agree on the courts, they still don't take the issue seriously enough.

Streetwise: What you are saying is you would lock people up for having a few beers, which would mean locking up most drivers on a weekend night. Get real man! Most people can drive without an accident. I know from my own experience what my limit is and its prob higher than most. I also know that I would not have an accident that was cuased by drinking. I was arrested one time for OWI and it was because I forgot to use my turn signal. The cop was looking for a reason to get someone and I was the lucky one. I ended up spending the night in the county jail! All for being .10 which for me is still sober! It did cost me in lawyer fees and fines and my license was suspended for 6 months! So dont tell me they dont have strict laws!
