Is this Bush's fault too?

Will all of the people who move to other jobs be credited to Mitch getting new jobs in Indiana?

The area has been in rapid retail decline in the last 15 years. The area has gone from White working middle class to low income black/hispanic state assance dewellings all along 38th street. My house in a different COUNTY was broke into my property was found at a 38th pawn shop! It's a dangerous place to be if you got any brains best retail is Pawnshops, Wallmart, Liqour Stores and Don's Guns...

"The company cited a change in business circumstances for the closure."..translation, when you have more merchandise going out the door unpaid for than you do in legitimate sales, it's time to "close shop".

Well.....the not feeling safe part is right, when,in the daylight hours,my truck was broken into.Went into Sears to replace a broken tool, only to come out and find my passenger side window broken out,for about 3 dollars in change and a crucifix hanging from the mirror.Lafayette Square has not been safe for years.I grew up very close to that area, and to this day,am amazed,at the upward trend in crime. No area is totally safe, even out here in the sticks, but, the way things are going,I'll stay out in the sticks,at least the dogs will make enough racket,or have a meal of a would be intruder. It is sad to see Sears fold up after so many years. My Grandfather and I spent a lot of time in the tool section, and that is where I bought my first set of tools. So long Sears at Lafayette Square!

fried chicken anyone?

I'm sure it's not the additional shopping created in Plainfield and Avon (and what shopping are they talking about in Brownsburg?)- there's been a tremendous population growth in those communities and people that shop there would never have travelled all the way to LSM anyway.
The true problem is the population that lives and hangs around LSM.
People just don't want to come back to their car in the parking lot and find it missing or broken into and people don't want to be involved in shootings or get robbed.

Lafayette Square certainly IS NOT an arpm pit. But if they were ever to give the world an enema that is where the tube would be.

It was a sad day for all of us. some were in tears others were angry. some had only been employed a week or two and some had been there for 30 + yrs, when all of a sudden it felt like being punched in the stomach. I have to start over again. they are not promising us anything. my family will be in dire straits in less than two weeks after this place closes. and to receive my separation pay I have to work until they close the doors. and quitting would incur penalties with unemployment compensation. damned if I do and damned if i don't. this is so unfair

guess one doesn't have to be literate to work at sears - but then again that's probably true for the pawn shop or video arcade that will replace the store so you might luck out

LMAO!!! Isn't that the truth. They can "ax someone wheres they be working" haha

I grew up on the westside of Indy in the 80s and it was a decent place to go. The mall was a place to go back then. Truly is sad to see Sears go. The one in Greenwood where I live now is still going strong though! ;)

Some of the people on here sound like they belong in a Palin/MCcain KKK Rally. WISH 8 should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such a forum for racist who hate Hispanics and blacks. If Sears is closing because of these races then think about the billions of dollars they made being open for so 40 years in this mall. Some of you are ridiculous, don't you understand that if Sears was losing money they would have left many many years ago.

well, people don't hate blacks or hispanics. they hate people who don't contribute anything to society but instead drain it of it's wealth. maybe it's coincidence that areas with this type of population tend to go down quickly but most likely it's not. why is it that almost all shooting victims shown on tv are not white and how is it that the next day when the suspects are arrested and get their own air time they aren't white either? why is it that more than half of the u.s. prison population is not white yet non-white groups are a minority in the general population? these statements have nothing to do with racism they are a pure statement of facts. and yes, i am aware that not every black or hispanic person is a criminal. in fact i'm an immigrant myself.
of course sears would have left years ago if they had been losing money then. fact is that the area around lafayette square is in drastic decline and this has accelerated rapidly in the last few years. they tried to put up with it and didn't want to let the filth drive them out of a once profitable location but at some point they had to make a rational decision from a business perspective. it's sad that it came that far and that people will lose their jobs but that's how it is. crime, violence and filth has driven out the people who once were good customers at the mall and now the stores have to follow them.

I could not agree with you more IWISH. None of the previous posts care anything about diversity. They would rather move away and hope everyone around them looks alike and thinks alike. Eventually they will have to wake up to the 21st century.

If "waking up" to the 21st century means worrying about being robbed, or your car broken into everytime you go to a mall..example Lafayette Square then I will be more than happy to live in the 20th century. I guess your definition of "diversity" means risk your life and your property so "others" can prosper.
