Instead of focusing on the building the owner should think about
improving the food and lowering the prices. Honestly, the food is quite bad; no better than hospital cafeteria food. I would be ashamed to serve this type of quality food in my own home. Not surprisingly a former German coworker of mine was ashamed that Eastside is considered the gold standard German restaurant in the area. I don't understand why people continue to pay so much for terrible food. Maybe they like someone screaming in their ear every time they get a 'big beer'.

YOURE NOT GETTING OUT OF HERE FOR UNDER $ 100. WHICH THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, EXEPT THE MENU IS SUCH THAT YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY CHOICES ON HOW YOU'D LIKE SOMETHING PREPARED, SUBSTITUTIONS, OR EVEN "RARE, MEDIUM, OR WELL". FOR THE OWNEN, THIS PLACE IS A GOLDMINE WHERE THEY MAKE YOU WEAR SILLY HATS WHILE OVERCHARGING YOU, ESPECIALLY ON THE BEER. THE TICKYTOCKY IS AMUSING THE FIRST TIME YOU GO, BUT A POOR SUBSTITUTE FOR REAL COMERADERIE, AND THE ACCORDION MUSIC IS GOOD, BUT IT REPEATS ON THE HOUR LIKE A TOP 40 STATION.

The Fort / Student prince is the area standard. And while good and authentic, can be a hit or miss on quality ranging from excellent to terrible.

Never been to the East Side, but I hear the same thing from just about everyone. Expensive as heck and the food is secondary. But they keep going. I guess that is how The olive garden is constantly busy too.

I say congratulations to the owner...i agree the food isn't great (have to DRAG my husband there), but it's the atmosphere and it's great to see a business in NB doing well enough to expand. And yes, there always seems to be a wait to get in and no, i don't see the owners twisting anyone's arm to come in. When business is that good, you don't LOWER the prices.

An outdoor beer garden in a residential neighborhood, I wonder what this will do to increase the noise in the surrounding area?

I have visited East Side Restaurant many times over the years and have found the food quality to be inconsistent at best. Sometimes it's good and sometimes just plain lousy. It's a shame because with the pricing, it's definitely not worth the chance of getting a lousy meal. And even several beers cannot improve the taste!
