Sounds like this person,(he is neither a man, nor a gentleman, so cannot use those terms for him,) is unwilling to grow up and face the facts, and to blame his children for his evil deeds shows that he is not remorseful for anything he has done.
I agree with the FD, hammer this guy, maybe they can put him away for awhile before he moves to another jurisdiction and gets a job and winds up getting somebody hurt when his lack of training causes him to lose his life in a fire, as well as the persons actually in the fire.
He deserves the maximum, not the minimum.

I am an ex-Firefighter/E.M.T.(had to quit because of back problems) I also hope he gets what he has coming to him. Like the artical states, we put our lives on the line when ever we respond, it sure would be horrible to get to the scene and not have the equipment needed. Especially if someone's life was hanging in the balance, and can't help them? He may think it was just small items, but they are not so small, very valuble equipment. Prosecute fully.

Maybe they can make him the fire warden of his cell block when he goes to prison. That might make him happy.

Now, I'm usually the first person to say I want bad things to happen to people who do bad things, but it sounds like this guy needs some serious psych help even more than he needs punishment.

The guy was stealing, among other things, nozzles and hoses? What the heck does he want with THOSE things?

Wait...maybe I don't want to know. In any case, that sort of fetish might be enjoyable for him when he does time and the boys jump in.

Thanks for your support, people. It was our fire department he stole from and we are livid. We are feeling a bit gullible, but it never ocurred to us someone would be so sick as to lie about all that stuff. He obviously has some kind of thing about being a fire fighter, so why would he jeopardize that by stealing from us and getting booted off? We are also worried that the local county attorney will let him plead down to nothing and he'll get nothing more than a slap on the wrist. This guy is a thief, steals anything that isn't nailed down, but they couldn't get him for theft because they can't prove it. Sad.

Can't PROVE it?! This guy claims the masks and hose nozzles are his, then the serial numbers on them are traced to a mask missing directly from the fire department (and very truck!) where he was unsupervised with a key (or two!!), and a nozzle that was MADE two years AFTER he claimed to have gotten the nozzle on a construction job? Then, he changes his story to his hid kids did it? Wow, is that ballsy. You can be insane (literally) and still commit crimes. This guy is and has. Charge him to the fullest extent possible and get him some real help AND full supervision for the next several years of his life. Having him raped in prison is not going to help him, but having him under 24-hour surveillance in a locked facility just might. He could have killed someone looking for that equipment in an emergency, and even by stealing gas from active/working emergency equipment (he is so incredibly lucky that they did not discover it was out of gas with no extra in the gas can while they were on an emergency call). This guy needs some serious help, but that does NOT excuse his behavior or mean he should not be charged with some serious crimes.
