ANYBODY CARE TO COMMENT ABOUT ALL THE HOOKERS IN THE OLD SIDE OF KILLEEN? THE OTHER DAY I SEEN WHERE A WOMAN WALKING DOWN THE STREET WAS STOPPED TWICE BY MEN IN CARS AND ASKED IF SHE WAS WILLING TO GO WITH THEM, IT'S SO BAD THAT YOU CAN'T WALK TO THE LOCAL STORE WITHOUT BEING ASKED WHAT YOUR PRICE IS? ALL YOU GUYS THAT CRUISE AROUND HERE LOOKING DON'T THINK THAT THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THIS AREA DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING? WOULD YOU WANT US TO COME TO YOUR SIDE OF TOWN AND DRIVE ENDLESSLY UP AND DOWN YOUR STREETS LOOKING AROUND FOR HOOKERS, IF YOU QUIT CRUISING AROUND OVER HERE, THEY MIGHT MOVE ON. OUT OF TOWN GANG BANGERS ARE JUST AS BAD, AIN'T VERY MUCH AROUND HERE THAT HASNT BEEN 'TAGGED'. COMMENTS ARE WELCOMED.

I agree, this is a big problem in Killeen, especially downtown. What cross streets do you live near? I see lots of prostitution activity on "G" Street and some on 10th. The gangbangers are just punks with spray cans. they only think they're bad, but those punks roam all over town. My question is, where are the cops? |

anybody out there care about stray animals? why do so many of the mlitary dump there pets before deploying? why not at least have some compassion enough that if they cant find a good home at least take them to the shelter-if they get put down dont u realize thats at least better than a life of starvation, abuse and the liklihood of getting caught under an suv. If one cannot afford to pay the fee of a return animal they have no place to adopt them to begin with. animals are domesticated for a reason and they have unconditional love even if they are abused-- dont we owe them a little more respect??? they have feelings and are living examples of unconditional love--we humans need to take a few lessons from them. feed back is welcome here because i dont get it?????

The police are out doing lame things like ticketing people for cursing and hanging out at 7 Eleven when they could be out fixing the REAL problems. And I went to watch the UFC fight last night at Ernie's.... one of the cops there was FAT and I mean FAT. Do we not have regulations like the military has? How the hell is his fat butt going to catch someone that runs? I know call for back up and all but OMG. |

Thanks for the reply, but don't need to post my crosssteet in order to shine a light on any one area in town, just take a look around the block then next time your anywhere around the main post office in downtown, all the streets in the area have at least one woman walking up and down the streets or groups of males walking around talking trash to each other in loud voices; I don't need to overheard what they are talking about, I don't put my business out on the streets, so why do I need to know theirs. The "Loud Noise" law in Killeen is just a tool to let the police into your face, in fact alot of times a person could be falling down drunk or stoned and instead of getting you on a PI charge; with the resulting low fine, they instead charge the person with loud noice and therefore get a higher fine out of that person. First offence can go as high as $700.00!!!!Alot higher than a mere 24 hr stay in jail and a $100.00 credit.
We have patrol units in the area, you see them from time to time, yet most of hookers and dealers just cut across yards and avoid being seen, what we need is something akin to what we see on Fox TV and for the police to follow up on what vidio is turned into them. Even tho they claim they can't really do like what we see on CSI on tv, I can't believe it. You ever look in their parking lot, they really need all those high-tech trucks? Come on folks, a 18 wheeler command post on wheels? Did any of them roll during the recent high winds and flooding? I've seen less high end stuff on Ft Hood than I can see out there in KPD's parking lot. Comment's? |

I know exactly what you mean. Drugs and prostitution is rampant is Killeen. There is so much cocaine and crack dealing in the area described above it is ridiculous and people wonder why there is so much burglery, petty crime, etc.. Addicts will do ANYTHING to get their drug. This is all done on a small scale. If the police don't think they will make a name for themselves they won't even arrest anyone. If it is a big dealer they might think about an arrest. It takes some effort to take people down, but it is not going to go away without some effort. Everything worthwhile is worth some effort. I know this because I have been in recovery for 6 years. I know the life and lifestyle. I sometimes wish someone would have arrested me. I know people who knew that I was doing wrong, but nothing was done. It is a tough life out there and someone has to care enough to do the work.

Firt offense for loud noise is $565 with court costs. It can be as high as $2000 the second time. This ordinance was driven by complaints to the city council about the noise and lack of respect for other people's right to not be disturbed. Cops get paid the same no matter what, so they don't care what the fine is. If you commit the crime, don't blame others when it costs you money. Your attitude is going to determine more than anything what happens.
The same prostitutes are arrested over and over again for the same offenses, so talk to the prosector and judges about doing something about them. Without higher penalties given, the arrests mean nothing to the offenders. During the flooding the mobile command post wasn't needed, since a stationary one was set up at the community center. By the way, the mobile command post was donated by businesses in the area, so you didn't have to pay for it. Killeen cops don't work in Heights or in bars, so that wasn't a KPD officer at Ernie's. A lot of the bars have private armed security that they hire, so maybe that's what you saw. |

Actually it was the Chief of the POLICE DEPT in Harker Heights, and I never said it was Killeen. However, I personally know a KPD officer who caught his 20 yr old son with marijuanna in his truck and did nothing to him. However, he was quick to arrest his son's friend when he caught him with it. Worthless piece of *hit. Isn't that what they call hypocrisy? And I understand the noise thing. I do not want to hear other people at 2am partying. I work and have kids and that is just rude to be so loud. |
There are several organizations which will foster the pets of deployed military. Unfortunately they are not well supported, however they do exist. I will try to get this info to you. I live in Austin where liberal bias thrives, people have the money but are not receptive to the cause...they suck...and that is on a good day. But it wont stop me from trying to get the message out! |

I have the SADDEST story to tell you guys. I was at a gas station over on zephyr the other day and there were these two cute kids in the store with a 50 dollar bill. No kidding. I didn't think anything of it until I noticed they were buying tons of sugar and then also asking for straight razors. I was then told that many children in the area come in purchasing straight razors so their parents can do lines of cocaine or heroine. It's pretty sickening.

WOW, it seems that Killeen has a dirty, seedy underbelly. |
|
I grew up here and back in the day Avenue D was the street to get your business handled on. The bus station was full of hookers right across the street from the police department.

I can't think of a single gas station on Zephyr |

You're right flatulence, it wasn't a gas station. It is a grocery mart/food store. Pardon me for forgetting the absence of gas pumps. Tou are obviously overanalytical :0 There are 2 on zephyr, I will leave it up to your imagination.

My guess would be the one right by Becker then.

You must of grown up in a small town, because KPD more special use cars and trucks than major cities in Texas. It don't matter if the darn thing rolled or not or if it was donated by privite business, it was just a bunch of metal sitting around not being used by city officials during a emergency! Their parking lot is larger than Automax! Need I post a pix of it in order to show you? I personally have never seen any of it moved for any reason, they just sit there day in and day out. Just like the Walker tank and Cobra attack helo in the park next to it. Privite business want to do something to help Killeen, then give the KPD money to put more officers on the street! What you wrote was a cop-out both for city businesses and the city goverment and free PR for both. Small squad tactics dictate that a "pincer movenment" stands the best chance of wiping out the emeny over a assult on one point, instead of running the hooker's from one side of town to the other, why don't they start at both ends and round up all of them at one time and be done with it? Based on the number of cars parked at KPD, they can afford to put 1 officer per car and do it. Don't know about the "cop at a club" thing, but I do know that while police pay isn't affected by the amount of 'fines' they collect, they do get 'directions' on what are more important to the city budget at any given time in this towh, when the city is short on funds, then arrest's go up, anybody who followes what the "Police Blotter" say's in the paper can say the same. It's called 'research' people! |
|
PS: with the court cost's it is over $700.00, a fact you kinda overlooked in your reply. It's like the hidden cost's of refinancing your house over the Internet. And the CITY pay's for the maintance of 'said' trucks and cars donated to the city, not the people who give them to the city so WE do pay for it. |
|
You have no clue what you're talking about. The blotter in the paper doesn't post anywhere near what happens in the area. Arrests are not effected by the need for city funds in any way, shape or form. The only thing that could be misconstrued as being such is when they have warrant round ups. That's just trying to clean up some of the back log of warrants that the city has on hand. If people would just pay their traffic fines, or at least go to court when supposed to, a large number of those would not even be necessary. As for the command post, I have seen it used on many occassions. There was no need to use it during the emergency you keep referring to. During Katrina it was set up at the evacuee inprocessing center for several months. It's used whenever there is a critical incident in which a stationary command post is not available. What other specialty vehicles are you referring to. The peacekeeper? There are no other specialty vehicles in the lot. You obviously haven't seen the cool stuff that big cities have, otherwise you would never have made the statement about Killeen having better toys. The crisis negotiators in larger cities have trailers the size of Killeen's command post all to themselves, with a lot better equipment inside. If you don't believe that, go to the conference in San Marcos sometime. I have no reason to offer a cop-out for the city or to give it PR. They have plenty of people, whom I'm sure get paid very well, for that function. I just don't like misrepresentations. Yes, more officers would be nice. However, they lose about as many as they gain either to retirement, overseas jobs, rookies who can't hack it or they go elsewhere to do the same job for more money with less workload than in Killeen. |

In order to arrest prostitutes, they have to actively engage in that activity when officers are there. Most of them have been doing it long enough that they recognize most of the officers, and they definitely know what a big white Crown Vic looks like. I don't think anyone wants the hookers to just be moved to a different location, but it's a misdemeanor and they pay their fine/bond just like any other misdemeanor. Then they're out and about, just like anyone else who pays their fine/bond. Again, you need to talk to the prosecutors and judges. It is their job to hand out the punishment after someone has been arrested. Without stricter punishment, why not continue to break the law? After the third time, it's supposed to be a state jail felony, but do they prosecute it at that level?
Loud noise fine:$500 Court cost:$65 Total:$565 If you have different amounts, I'd like to hear them. |
