I hope they investigate and if the Story holds true give the two Police officers a commendation and a big thank you. I think running from the Police should be reason to get you shot.

The story is true, I promise. He was a real piece of work. He laid for the officers before they came into the yard. Once the first Officer poked his head in to see where the guy was he started firing at them both. Terrible. He took the worst of it for sure. The Officers weren't hurt at all, thank god. All the guy had to do was talk to them and let them investigate the robbery. But noooooo....he decided to run....and then attempted to kill the Officers. The Officers should absolutely get awards and hopefully this guy will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

NCO, I think it's pretty upsetting that you even think for a moment this wasn't a justified use of force.

Lawdog, You took what I said wrong. As I understand it, any and all Officer involved shootings have to be investigated by law. As I thought I made clear, I hope that goes well, and quick so these fine officers can get back out on the streets. Have you seen the story out of VA. about police ramming fleeing suspects with patrol cars? I am not a bleeding heart. I think running SHOULD be enough to draw a shot. Fleeing from Police is wrong. Stand and take what you have coming, but if you flee, what happens to you happens. I have nothing but respect for Police.

NCO... I completely understood what you said the first time...but you definitely added clarity the second time. LoL
Just so you know, the Officers invovled in this particular shooting are back on the street and seemingly unaffected emotionally. The guy did not die, he is still alive and that's kinda good because now he can stand trial. From what I understand the suspect was a parolee out of Alabama that was transfered here to live with his family. Wanna guess what he was on Parole for?..... Burglary! I know... that's a stretch but's it's true.:) I know the Officers thank you for their support. They damn well better anyway...god knows there's enough people out there that don't support Law Enforcement. Thanks!:) |

2 cents, you gave me the benefit I am sure because we have posted on a few of the same topics. Lawdog might be a cop or trooper from his name, I don't know. I am one of those that, despite how cold this sounds, don't really care about the suspect being alive to stand trial. To my way of thinking, you ran, therefore you plead guilty, you fired at law enforcement, therefore you asked for the death penalty. When I brief my Soldiers on the rules of engagement and use of deadly force, I always come down on the safety of MY side. I support law enforcement doing the same. Back in Ga. I had many friends on the police and in the troopers, we road motorcycles together off duty and would sometimes discuss the 'rules' law enforcement had to comply with before drawing a weapon. By the time you run the damn checklist in your head, you could be hit already. I don't like it. We hire law enforcement to protect us. Train them, have reinforcement training as needed, but TRUST THERE JUDGEMENT. Those that complain every time an officer does something that 10 seconds of video shows looks bad, the suspect gets all the support. That is backwards. IF when confronted by law enforcement, you offer no resistance and comply with all orders instantly, you don't have a problem. I got caught up in a bar fight years ago in Philly, I was not in the fight, just a witness, but when the Police showed up, they just started cuffing folks and sitting them down. This was done to sort out the situation. I shut up, let myself be cuffed, sat down and waited. Once the Police had the situation under control they started talking to everyone they had cuffed. After talking to me, took almost an hour to get to me, they uncuffed me, thanked me, took my contact info and sent me on my way. If I had resisted, I might have gotten a night stick or worse. However, 10 police running into a crowded bar with maybe 150 people in it trying to restore order and find out what happened? Those 10 cops have some serious stones and deserve nothing but respect. I saw one guy that tried to reach for his wallet instead of putting his hands in sight like the officer said, down he went, he tried to sue and I testified for the officer at the civil action. If you happen to know those officers, give them my thanks, tell them to hit the range and save the tax payers a trial next time. I am not sure how TX. looks at that, but I know how I feel about it.
