Trying to rent in killeen

I went online the other day to search for rental property and i found a few houses i liked.. so i contacted the rental agency and they told me they would not e-mail me pictures of the inside of the house that i would have to go all the way down to killeen and look in the homes for myself.
WTF is that bull shit!
I live in California and dont want to make more trips then needed down there to find a home.
I want to see the inside of the homes before i make the trip to see if im sure i want to live in that specific home.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD RENTAL AGENCY OR HAVE A HOME THEY ARE RENTING OUT IN THE AREA.
We want to live close to base... but not on base.

try the old 440 area of killeen. the new houses(12/15)years old, even 20 were built so quickly tht their foundations were not allowed to set properly and they mostly have piping problems. the 440 area is not only safe but is mostly older people that will not bother you. keep in mind however, that crime is high in killeen, check with the local police department for how many calls and what type of calls they have had in certain neighborhoods. the best way to fight crime here is to be vigilant and communicate with neighbors-keep an eye on your property and maybe theirs and get some good rental insurance or homeowners. cars decked out for racing are stolen a lot here as well as motorcycles. most houses and apartments that have dogs are not vandalized. keep in mind that this is the "dirty south"and coming from california you will hate it a lot before you like it. be careful with real estate agencies here(go to rip-off report.com and look up copperas cove, harker heights, fort hood and killeen)a lot of real estate agents here will place you according to the color of your skin rather than the convenience and safety of the neighborhood. the area behind walmart in killeen is also a good area. also copperas cove is smaller and cheaper as well as lots safer but even cove has its neighborhoods that are bad. also look into security systems. not to keep you away or anything but killeen was just ranked the fifth most dangerous city in texas (look up in recent city, country rankins). take care and god bless your trip here. i am from california and it is a long story-why i am here-but i like it, i got used to it and i dont have much that people can steal. be safe.

There is a website that for some reason dose not come up when i seacr for rental this website has 100 times more listings than forthoodrentals.com .......The website is called tenantplus.com ..I wish i would have know about this before i came back from iraq and had to drive around looking for places

Stay away from TexStar properties!!! There's a posting on this site about them. Read it if you're going to be renting in this area! It will be well worth your while.

You can try contacting Soldiers of Real Estate at www.soldiersofrealestate.com . It is owned by a retired soldier and is usually willing to work with people on active duty in the Ft Hood/Killeen area, I belive they post photo's of place's they have listed for sale or rent.

Believe me, I did my homework. Armadillo Properties out of Copperas Cove, TX is the best fit for the Military on the go. I have PCSed to Guam but my house was rented less than a week after I left.
The owners are retired military and have been in the AOR for a long time. From Guam to Texas it is 15 hour difference. The owners and I have discussed my rental property late at night just to enusre I understood and was at ease. That means a lot being far away.
As for a Rental company they will work with you until you find what you are looking for. They communicate at all times of the day/night.

Your house rented because it was on MODOC you idiot. Quit trying to get a free referal fee. Modoc is the highest profile street in Skipcha Mtn, thats why I bought one there houses over there, I dont think Armadillo has more than one on Modoc, so if it was yours they told me to drive 17 miles to cove to get a key to look at it then 17 miles back to Heights then 17 miles to Cove to turn in the key, yeah GREAT company at least colonial is in Heights

I bought because payments were cheeper than rent , found an individual that had a 4.93% VA rate that was assumable. The point is that any property that goes up for rent by any company or individual on MODOC gets rented. Also, if your going to try to cheese a referal then at least tell the referee your motivation, smart guy
