Deputies won't face discipline in case of motorist who died

Two deputies will not be discliplined for not going into a field to investigate a car wreck in which the driver was later found dead.

I thought the police was there to protect and serve us if they see a car off in the field they should go look in it and make sure no one is in the vehicle i think this is stupid !!!!! they need to change the procedures and policies and the quote the officers made (The officers left without checking the vehicle, believing that someone had driven into the field intentionally to gather firewood.) I think this a crock of crap if the car looked like it was wrecked common sense they would go look it that guy could have survived and be with his family instead of being froze to death.

Why did they respond if they where not going to do there job?I mean what was the point in going out there if they where not going to cheeck things out?Thats what police do isen't it?i'm just sorry for the family for there loss.I hope I don't have to depend on the police for anything,I guess that saying about police is true they are lazy and spend most of there time at the donut shops.

Another thing!I think they should face some kind of charges because they did not do there job.police don't respond to a call like that and do a drive bye.what is up with that?It's not write I don't care what any one says.They where neglegent.I am pist about this and I can't emagine what the family is going through.

join the police force if you think you can do better. Our police Officers here in Indy are kick boodie and do one heck of a job after all they are human to... what good would it have done if they were found guilty of not looking..? Im sure they have already learned a valuable lesson which they will take into there police workin the future. My goodness you people act like they are the crimminals... get a life...!

Come on now! They received two 911 calls! Was the man visibly outside his vehicle gathering wood which gave them the impression he drove off the road intentionally? No! They had a duty and responsibility to investigate since the 911 calls indicated they saw this vehicle veer off the road! They are responsible for this man's death and the department is taking no action? Yeah, I'd feel real safe in that county!

Negligence is not a valid excuse in my opinion, seems like it is in yours though.

I know of the officer's in question. It was of course an investigation revealed it was "mis communication". However, the callers on 911 stated that the vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed, nearly causing other collisions. Yes they should have gone back to check. The reason they did not go and check is because another local city officer stated that people have permission to back at that wood line to gather firewood. My question is, who gets firewood from a field in car? Especially in the cold bitter Indiana winter? And since that time, one of the officer's involved has been promoted to Sergeant. Now what do you think of that?

I know for a fact that the man the was driving this car had Alzheimer's and shouldn't have even been driving that car. So I think it is his family who is at fault they should ave made sure that he had someone with him to take care of him. Also he had his license taken away from him several times and the state gave it back.So is it also the states fault??? Also the Garrett police officer that 1st got the call told the county officers that he had just walked the field and no one was there. I know the police officers that worked this case and they are GREAT. If i ever needed anything I could trust them. So I think all of you that think that these WONDERFUL OFFICERS need to be punished need to hear the WHOLE story not what the news says which is half of the story and then state your opinion.

They are criminals to certain extent. The "LAW" here doesn't accept incompetence and negligence as an excuse, why should the people accept it from hired servants?
Spend any amount of time in the court system and you will see gross negligence and incompetence, It's unbelievable! False and incorrect paperwork, incompetent people, personal biases, you name it!
