Avalon's Isthmus Harbor???

Were they in Avalon, or were they at the Isthmus?

How did they lose their dinghy, and why was it partially sunk?

What kind of reporting is this?

Maybe you should read the article before you post:

"Young said she didn't have details about how their small boat ended up near Goat Harbor, but said it didn't appear to be damaged"

Take a fundamental reading class at adult night school. If they were "near Avalon" in the "Isthmus anchorage" ON THEIR BOAT seems pretty clear the were in the Isthmus. The CG in the article said they didn't know how the dingy got there. Isn't the important part that they were found SAFE? Just a thought.

Moronica and Doug and bhj:

Avalon is 12 miles from the Isthmus - look at a freakin map - they are nowhere near each other!

And if she 'didn't have details'- why the hell not?!?

Piss poor reporting....

12 miles being near or far is a relative perspective. Pan out on your little google map and they could be on top of each other. The "anchorage" gives a wider nautical swath for proximity. Who really cares as long as the father and son were found safe? I don't see your name anywhere in the article providing useful information. Because she was a "spokeswoman" she probably was working off a dispatch that would provide preliminary or complete details. That would answer your "why the hell not?" If the minutiae is so critical to your lonely little azzz, why don't you provide more details, or better yet, get off your butt and jump on a boat.

I notice the article was posted at 10 p.m. Even if it was written an hour or two earlier, it's unlikely the reporter could have gotten more information on a Sunday. If you think that's inconceivable, why don't you call the police department, fire department or any other official agency on a Sunday night to get details of something that happened anytime that day. I don't see any reason for you to be abusive. I'm sure reporting isn't as easy as you make it seem, especially since it doesn't seem like you're doing the reporting. Side note: It looks like even the tiny unclear details you've presented are not precise and come a full day after the article was posted. If we waited for your offensive commentary to get news, we'd probably just now be finding out the Civil War was over.

I thought you were just a bitter old person, but it's nice to see you have a sense of humor.

LOL. Bitter old person.

I'm a boater, who tries to learn from other's mistakes - which is why I wanted to know how they lost the dink...

On a map Avalon and Isthmus may appear close, to a sailboater, not particularly. Did the dink fall off the deck? Come untied from its towing gear? Have a whale jump on it? Shark bite it?
Did someone tow it back to the people who lost it?

To ME, that information was an important aspect of the story, obviously not to everyone else.

That's ok. I usually have unanswered questions regarding stories coming from Catalina. And it WAS Sunday, too....just hope the dad and son are having fun and got their dinghy back!

As for being critical, in fact, I am a writer, reporter and reader. In my opinion this story was pretty slight on the details...which could have been remedied by interviewing the people for an update.

No one else, seemingly, cares about the specific details, at least not those who've taken the time to excoriate me here for asking.

Why don't you go interview them for us? Start where they found the small boat and follow their wake. I'm thinking if you're a reporter, you'd be aware of how newspaper resources have shrunk. The important information seems to be that the boaters were found safe, not how their dingy might have come untied. If I were a reporter, I doubt I would take the time to track the men down to find out how they lost their little boat. That's about as inconsequential as telling everybody in the world how my 7-year-old lost her tooth. Look how anal retentive you are monitoring all of your comments and counter comments on this virtual non-story. Get a life.

I feel sorry for your daughter, having such a pleasant guy for a dad.....do you jump down her throat and call her names, too, or have you trained her to sit down and shut up and not have interests or hobbies? Probably both.

THIS IS A FORUM FOR COMMENTS - so I'm commenting.

You don't have to read it....

How about you go spend time reading to your kid so she'll have some literacy skills...oh no, wait, we wouldn't want her THINKING or anything.
