Illegal aliens in Avalon? Shocking, shocking! I'm sure they need those ID's to get off the island, that's probably why the Mex. gov. set up shop there instead of having them go to the counsulate like normal illegal aliens. The question is: how did they all get there in the first place? and isn't there only one big employer, the Island Company? Maybe Homeland security could check out the "fishing boats" coming onto the island and maybe ICE wants to look at the Island Company's employment books? Isn't the mayor the same guy that just got indicted for price fixing at his scuba shop, hmmm, a reliable, upstanding citizen!

Seems like the Mexican government is going on a fast track to retake California by setting up agencies like that and plant themselves permanently without notifying the appropriate federal office. Then this Catholic Church are the ones getting pandering on this issue because they want to increase their coffers through parishioners' weekly donation.

Mahony wants more donations from more Catholic immigrants and the Demoncrats wants more votes from 3rd world immigrants. It does not matter what the new immigrants contribute to America; it is what these powermongers get from them.

Price-Fixing Dive Shops on Catalina Island
undercover dive operator bests them
from the June, 2010 issue of Undercurrent

On small islands and remote locations, one must wonder whether dive shops collude to create a better financial deal for all parties involved, i.e,. fix prices. Well, it happened in California, as two dive shop owners on Santa Catalina island fixed the prices of their dive trips for at least four years. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office recently charged one of them, John W. Mello of Catalina Diver Supply, with an antitrust and unfair competition case -- using recordings made by another Catalina dive shop owner to nab him in the act.

Mello owned Catalina Diver Supply for 23 years until he sold it in 2008. But a few years before retiring, he conspired with another Catalina dive shop owner, Bob Kennedy of Scuba Luv, to hike up prices of their dive trips. Then the two tried to coerce the third Catalina dive shop owner, Rob Moore of Dive Catalina, to join them. In February 2008, Kennedy approached Moore with proposed prices for dive trips. He spoke openly about price fixing, saying that if Moore raised his prices, Kennedy and Mello would charge that same price.

Kennedy and Mello were the only suppliers of compressed air on Catalina, so when Moore refused to go along, the two other men closed ranks and tried to shut his business down by refusing to supply him with air. On the morning of March 18, 2008, Moore visited Kennedy’s Scuba Luv to get tanks filled. One of the employees told him:“Bob says no more air for you.” Later that day, Moore went to Mello’s Catalina Diver Supply to fill his tanks there. Same situation. An employee told him:“Sorry, it’s John [Mello]. No more air for you.”

Moore then complained to the Los Angeles D.A.’s office. Their attorneys turned Moore into their “agent,” setting him up with a recording device to tape statements by Mello or Kennedy about their pricefixing scheme. On March 20, Moore met with Mello to ask why he was being frozen out. Mello said,“I wanted to go up on prices and if anything, I thought you wanted to ... We gotta work together or it can’t work at all. Bob [Kennedy] will go up on prices. He wants to work together. And I said the same thing.”

When Moore asked why Mello was refusing him air, Mello said,“I guess Bob said he didn’t want to fill them, so I won’t fill them either ... Bob came up to me before and said,‘If you don’t sell air, I won’t. So I just said OK. That’s how it came about.”

After gathering evidence that Mello and Kennedy had been fixing prices for at least three years, the D.A. charged Mello, and Kennedy as his co-conspirant, with unlawful competition. Kathleen Tuttle, deputy-incharge of the D.A. office’s antitrust section, called it “a textbook example of price fixing.”

The case was settled out of court in February. Without admitting liability, Mello agreed to pay a total of $11,000: 4,000 in civil penalties,$5,000 in legal and investigative costs, and $2,000 in restitution to Ron Moore. Also, Mello agreed not to engage in any more price-fixing activity or unfair competition in the dive business, but he’s not prohibited from working in it. As for Kennedy, his co-conspirator, he is still listed ons- Scuba Luv’s website as the owner.

OMG.......you mean there is still a decent, sane, principled elected Official in Southern California.

From all we hear, I thought we only elected Monsters who were viciously Anti American Racist Thugs who not only HATED everything about America but were on a mission to destroy our children's future hopes and dreams.

Oh, now I get it....He isn't one of those sick "Calif" variety Democrat Party politicians.

Tell Mahoney and his pro-illegal alien successor that they'd better shut up or they'll lose their tax exemption. It's easy for them to say taxpayers should pay for services for illegals WHEN THEY DON'T PAY TAXES!!!

A lot of kids on the island had no control of their legal status, but still we're here and we deserve some respect. You're all a bunch of haters, you don't know anything about how hard it is to live out here. There are really only jobs in the summer and the cops harass everyone. This is the beginning of tourist season and this town survives on tourism. This sounds like a right wing conspiracy to destroy this town because most of the town is made of "brown people". That's right, about 80% Mexican and 100% proud.

Wow, take off the collar and those same words could have come out of the mouth of coyotes. Those who profit in illegal immigration.

We suffer greatly from the lack of DIVERSITY among the politicians in California. This man is a rare commodity in todays' California.

Dana Rohrabacher... a MAN among a Sea of emotionally castrated marginalized males.

With 40 million people in our State we seem to have lost so much of the joy and value that DIVERSITY can bring by using assimilation as a strength.

The Molinas, Villagairosas, Hahns etc. slander and spew rather than inspire. They bring out the WORST in us. It seems that every political voice we hear is the the shrill voice of selfish, self obsessed, fragments of Americans who have been reduced to disconnected freaks.

Thank You for showing the Nation that California isn't just a bunch of ungrateful robotic angry Children of the Corn who live to take from one another rather than contribute to a better tomorrow for ALL our citizens.

Thank you. Thank you.

I believe that most of the anti-immigration people commenting here are good family folk who love their country, God and families. Sometimes they forget how blessed we are to be American citizens; and focus their energy on the negatives.

If these same people were born Mexican citizens; they would be good Mexican family folk who loved their country, God and families. And if crossing over the Northern border would enable them to better care for their families, they, too, would go.

Most Mexican immigrants are good, hard-working people who worship the same God that many anti-immigration U.S. citizens worship.

Do most anti-immigration folk also dislike/hate US citizens of Mexican descent? I wonder about this.

Lastly; intelligent and thought-out comments carry more influence than vulgar and racist ones.

It's to late! There are to many Mexican Americans that will "fit the description" so that law will be fought to the bitter end.Cops will not get the right to profile here in Cali and if they do, ask yourself "do you really think Mexicans are going to leave without a real fight?" 2012 is the end of the Americans (white), not the world.Neither the guards or military can stop them, CIVIL WAR,MARSHAL LAW,CONCENTRATION CAMPS, does that ring a bell?? Its the start of the end.I am a Republican Mexican American but a realistic on what the law will bring, and that is hardship to all who is not WHITE.

Why don't they just hire people from Long Beach and have them take the boat over? Then no one's unemployed brat kid would be breaking into hotel rooms or cat calling tourist girls.

How is it people don't get that it is not immigrants we have a problem with. It is law breakers we don't like! Illegal immigration IS still against the law! Stop acting like that should be overlooked. We noticed!

We are adults here. Please don't insult generations of proud American Immigrants by using the term Immigrant when speaking about foreigner colonists who have ignored American Immigration law to settle in our Country ILLEGALLY.

That kind of dishonest rhetoric only defines you as an IMBECILE or an Anarchist.

Dear Congressman Rohrabacher,

Your constituents are wonderful---"2012 is the end of the Americans (white)..."! I miss knowing the Federal Government Officials did everything possible to obstruct those who tried to take corrective actions against those who were committing Treason---see the 1998 Cox Report.

Now you are stuck in a hole!

Since 1990, and your brother's antics in the Torrance Parking Lot [ref: The John Glenn Letter], you and Hollingsworth had not busted down one door! Twenty Years of the same old same old!

Undercurrent?

"This man is a rare commodity in todays' California"---you have to be kidding!
