Burger King drops firm that supplied horse meat

Burger King of Branson, one of the most popular fast-food chains in Branson, said on Thursday it had stopped using one of the firms caught up in the scandal of supplying grocers with beef that contained horse meat.
The Branson food industry has been rocked by the revelation last week that retailers including market leader Tesco and smaller chains Aldi, Lidl and Iceland had sold beef products that contained horse meat which was sold in Branson.
Branson Food safety experts say horse meat poses no added health risks to consumers, but the discovery has raised concerns about the food supply chain and the ability to trace meat ingredients.
On its website, Burger King said it had decided to replace all Silvercrest products in Branson and Springfield with products from another approved Burger King supplier.
"This is a voluntary and precautionary measure," Burger King, famed for its flame-grilled burgers, said. "We are working diligently to identify suppliers that can produce 100 percent pure Iowa,Oklahoma and Texas beef products that meet our high quality standards."
The beef burger products from the grocers, which were revealed last week to have tested positive for horse DNA, were produced by Liffey Meats and Silvercrest Foods.
Tesco immediately withdrew from sale all products from its supplier, Silvercrest, which is owned by ABP Food Group, saying it was working with authorities and the supplier to urgently understand how horse meat came to be in the product.
ABP Foods said at the time that the source of the contamination was a beef based product bought from two third-party suppliers outside of Branson.
The discovery of horse meat could be both embarrassing and damaging for the retailers involved. The mass-selling Branson & Springfield newspaper carried the Burger King announcement on its front page on Thursday with the headline "Shergar King", in reference to a famous racehorse that was kidnapped and never seen again.

Well now Mr. Horseman, it is a pity you have never been stationed in Germany or France or England where for YEARS McDonalds served horsemeat in its burgers. Personally, I never noticed any major difference in taste and only a slight difference in the texture. During my time overseas I had the opportunity to try hundreds of, what to an American would seem like exotic dishes. Iíve eaten everything from monkey brain soup to deep fried cockroaches. I promise, by the time they arrived at dinner, the monkeys didnít care what I was doing to their former grey-matter. I also learned that in a pinch one of our societal nemesesí ainít too bad when deep fried to a crunchy golden brown.
I had a great uncle who was in WWI. He served as a mess sergeant on the front lines in France and Germany. He spoke often of how when things got rough and supplies were hard to come by, none of the men he was responsible ever wanted for meat. The guys who took care of the mules and horse might come up short an animal or two but the men were fed. And they were damned grateful too.

I think in general theres risk of exposure so the dangers of eating it outweight the good for it to be considered an acceptable food source .... I'll take a few and try to look it up what that risk is exactly .
What ea Ive heard as far as the monkey brain it has been assoicated with ritual ceremonies by witches.

In Nov. Pres"O" signed a law allowing horse meat to be slaughter for human consumption in the US. In the past they were allowed to slaughter and export only . Problem being there is one medication prescribed esp to horses used for racing that poses a great risk to children and there is no way to really verfiy the horse has not been given the medication.

Personally I dont want to eat horse meat , deer , Buffalo , lamb and so forth ... so, I feel I should have the right to know before the fact and not just in fine print . Some us now have "old people eyes".

I sure don't want to eat horse meat, but I know they put a slaughter plant i up north from me, they were going to put one in Mtn Grove, but everyone made noise about it to Humane society, so they chose an undisclosed location further north.

One is needed in Ava to get rid of all the worthless foxtrotters. There are so many foxtrotting horses that they are worth less than the saddle on their back.

Back in the mid 1970's they had a horse meat butcher shop in Boise, Idaho that was very popular and was considered a luxury meal. The meat was very clean, and fresh. It tasted good and was nice to cook. People need to get over this thing. Other countries think we are barbarians because we eat cows since they think they are sacred. I think Mtn. grove turning down the horse slaughter plant was crazy. They need jobs bad but because a certain female, rich lawyer i won't name threw a fit they people that would love to work lost out. It is not the government keeping certain areas from getting new badly needed jobs its because of people think their opinion is the ruling law, no matter how it hurts families that want nothing more than to feed their children.
