My family will be moving to Ava in July. Can anyone tell me if Ava has any kind of a health facility or somewhere to work out that would be safe for little ones as well?

Ava is a beautiful place to live, just like any other place has a lot of good, no great qualities and a few bad ones. As far as health facilities there are 3 doctor offices one thru Cox hospitals, one thru St. Johns hospital, and the county has a very nice facility also. there is also a work out place, not sure if it has daycare but about 11 miles down the road, Mansfield has a very nice community center. I suggest you call our local chamber office they will be glad to send you info. I hope you will love it here. We also have a number of wonderful churches, let me personally invite you to where I attend, Highway Church of the Nazarene. Hope this helps have a wonderful day!

Ava has a couple smaller gyms, Seymour has a YMCA, otherwise for the bigger gyms that have play areas for little ones there is one in Ozark and then several in Springfield. Probably something you will want to look into once you were here. Ava does have a pretty nice little park and a public swimming pool. It's a small town, but its a nice place to live.

If you have kids, you don't want to live here. This town isn't "kid suitable" and has no programs for kids in it. Also, the school is run by a questionable authority and the town is filled with druggies. As far as I know, there are NO gyms and there are very few sidewalks to run/walk on. Even around the school. Last year they finally started putting in some, but they're still working on it. I guess you can go to the park.
Supposedly though, they're building a community center that's somewhat like a YMCA.

I wouldn't suggest Ava for a family... maybe a retired couple, but not a family with kids. It's a deadend small town with no programs for children like other areas around Ava have to offer. This town is full of problems.

AVA IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE AND AS ANYWHERE IF YOUR LOOKING FOR TROUBLE YOU WILL FIND IT, THERE'S PLENTY TO DO IN AND AROUND AVA - AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD! THERE PLAY GROUNDS THAT I TAKE MY GRAND DAUGHTER TO, THERE IS PLACES TO WORK OUT, WE HAVE A BEAUTIFUL WALKING TRAIL, IF YOU DON'T MIND LIVING OUT A LITTLE YOUR CHILDREN CAN GO TO A SMALLER SCHOOL UNTILL TIME FOR HIGH SCHOOL OR ANOTHER OPTION IS TO CHOOSE A PRIVATE SCHOOL ONE IS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF AVA THE OTHER IS AT MT. ZION ABOUT 8 OR 9 MILES OUT OF AVA. BOTH GOOD FACILITES. GOOD LUCK AND MANY BLESSING TO YOU NO MATTER WHERE YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE OR WORK

The private school in Ava is not staffed by EDUCATED CERTIFIED TEACHERS. Anyone can teach at the private school in Ava, as it is considered volunterism through the church and they make around 8,000 a year to teach the kids.

Ava is not a good place to live. To many druggies and people always get drunk here. Like one time our neighbors got in a huge fight in MY yard and the police was at my house because of it. And the school board sucks, there is nothing to do in Ava at all. The only thing to do is go to the park but the park is always full of immature kids and they're out there smoking. So don't move here...

again point is if your looking for trouble u will find in anyplace you go, yes i agree ava has some druggies but we also have a wealth of good people here, and it's a beautiful place to raise your kids. it just depends what your looking for small town is us, and since the population is smaller a lot of people know about the problems going on in lives of other people, but theres also like Ive said many, many good things and anywhere you go u will find both bad and good. I hope that if you are displeased with Ava and some of its issues u are trying to be part of the answer and not part of the problem. choose to do good, say good, live good and we all would see vast improvements in our community, try it.

It is true that if you look for trouble it isn't hard to find, but isn't that true in any town? I think that Ava is a great place to raise a family. We do have a few places in town to work out at. There is Figures Inc. and the Physical Therapy Clinic. For children, there are several activities sponsored by the parks depatrment and the school has many activites also. We are a small town so there aren't a lot of choices but there are a few. We do have a few health clinics in Ava but I would suggest finding a doctor in Springfield. I hope that this helps you and welcome to our community!

All I can say is, "Good luck," if you move here. You'll need it. The only really good jobs around here is at copeland and the electric in town is outrageously high.

Ava is NOT a good place for children, I mean if you want to live out a bit, such as out in the country.. it can be nice and peaceful as long as you have your own land. Ava has no opportunities... and Douglas county is one of the leading producers of METH in the entire United States... look up some info on it, I'm sure you'll find it's true. There is nothing to do here, no where to shop, NOTHING for kids to do. The pool is nice but the park is not that impressive. As with anywhere it has it's problems but like mentioned..my children have nothing to do here, if we want to do something then we have to go to Springfield/Branson.. I think it's ok as long as you keep to yourselves.. never know how territorial some get about thier " property" your liable to get shot for who knows what..Copeland is the only job in town, unless it's at a supermarket or restaurant.. and copeland is even questionable at this point. I live in town with ALL electric which I know makes it higher but my electric bill with all honestly runs around 500.00 during the winter months and averages 300.00 or more during the summer months.. it always has been high but since the rate increase it has nearly doubled and has some months.. the electric bill never fails to be more than my loan payment on my home. Yes you can find positive aspects but.. for kids I mean what are they going to do?? Kids get drunk and do drugs here and that is plain and simple.. no not all kids. As for the workout place... it isn't impressive either, the physical therapy clinic that has the gym... has a small room for kids but nothing to play with in there and they gym is small.. Mansfield does have a nice workout place about 11 miles down the road. You'l see, the teachers, officials, deputy's.. everything in this town is all about who you are. In a town of what maybe 3-4,000 people if you have a good name then you might do well. It's unjust and plain out unfair judicial system. I say that will all honesty.. I've never been in trouble but when I needed assistance.. I got told several times.. there is only one officer on duty so you'll have to wait till he can get over there. I'm sure Ava is better than say Atlanta or elsewhere but I do not think it's good for children. After all I've always heard if you want to get away with murder, just go to Douglas County Missouri.

Mansfield is only like 15 minutes from Ava and it has a nice gym. Ava has a better swimming pool though.

15minutes is a long ways away. The discussion is on Ava anyways. These sites are always pointless and do more harm than good anyways.

If you are moving to Ava all I can suggest is that you buy a home outside of town. The electric rates are outrageous. It has increased approximately 75% or more since last year. We just got a 16% increase April 1st of this year. The city has switched co-ops but the rates are still going to go up according to the statement in the newspaper after the switch. There is absolutely nothing for the your kids to do. Violence picks up in the summer because of this. If you want to go shopping or have a nice dinner than you will have to drive an hour to Springfield or Branson. If you want a good paying job then I would suggest living a little closer to Springfield or Branson as Copeland is the only employer in town that employs hundreds of people. Your only other options are Wal-Mart and the grocery store. If you are going to buy a home I do NOT suggest that you go through United Country Area Land Realty which is owned by Max & Wanda Murphy. That is who my husband and I bought our house from and we got screwed big time!! I will not go into details on here, but do NOT buy a home from them. I can't say much about the school system as we don't have any children. From what I hear the elementary school is okay, but the high school has a lot to be desired. I hope this insight helps. Living in Ava definitely sucks and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone, but living outside of town wouldn't be too bad. I hope this helps in your decision to move.
