For anyone who is interested, the latest article about Austintown schools is in the Vindicator online ( www.vindy.com
). The following is a response to the article published January 25, 2006, called Savings Ideas Sought http://www.vindy.com/content/local_regional/2...
A history lesson might be important at this juncture. It seems that almost every time Austintown parents have a critical vote looming on the horizon, the Austintown Board of Education drops this big cloud of "gloom and doom." How many times have we heard this in the past, and how many times will we hear it in the future? For all of those voters who put Creatore on the board, you should be disappointed at the result. Either the task is too large for Creatore to tackle or his recent meeting to canvass input was grandstanding and theatrics at its highest evolved state. I prefer the latter.
And, someone please tell me what Doug Heuer is doing to help us parents out? Who is this guy? Where'd he come from? And, is he gonna be here a hot minute and bail on us like the last few interims? I've also only heard from administrators who apparently think they are the clock every day when they drive to their offices--punch in at 9:00, go home at 5:00, and forget about everything else in between. Meanwhile, we parents have to send our students to classes that are busting at the seams, teacher-provided daily curricula from the Internet (Egads!), and assigned homework on an infrequent basis. Our kids play in antiquated sports facilities. Hell, half the time, there is not room for seating after the other thirty parents fill the bleachers. The board is forever hanging busing over our heads. We have cocky teachers who aren't being dealt with appropriately. We have even cockier principals, some of whom have been in the district entirely too long. Someone please give me some good news here! Because I am not seeing it. To me, it looks like our Schools Superintendent and Board President are more intent on cheating us parents than helping our students.
Part of it might be, I mean, do we have two octogenarians on the school board? What can they do for my kids? Because I certainly am not seeing it! Or, no, maybe they just act like octogenarians, that might be it...
The Austintown Board of Education needs to screw its head on straight before giving us the "gloom and doom" news right before an election. That can be soooooooooo insulting. Too, you need to work on cleaning up your image before you ask us to vote on two levies. Some of us start dropping levies when we see gross inefficiency and a school district that can't control sex crimes on campus. How many years in a row do we have to keep hearing about crap like that? How much are the lawsuits against the district going to cost us parents? You didn't even mention that! Be glad I'm not your schools superintendent. The first time, okay, you have some creep videotaping surreptitiously. The second time, hey, wait a minute; we have a teacher who wants to play hanky-panky with a student. But, the third time I heard serious allegations of misconduct, I would fire and change out your high school principals so fast it would make their heads spin. If I couldn't do that, well it surely would be a "no" vote of confidence when it came time for contract renewals. I just want to know how idiotic some of these high-paid professionals can be.
Quite frankly, Creatore, you need to look at each position, reorganize, and then come to us parents with sincerity in your heart. Right now, I'm just not feeling it for these two levies. I have no confidence in our present board president, several principals, and district leaders. I am voting against both levies until the Board can start doing something positive for Austintown, for a change.
