Man in fight with builder over shifting soil

Being new to Colorado, we trusted our realtor and decided to move to Murphy Creek and have since been experiencing problems with (what I will assume is) the expansive soil. We have had one water leak which caused damage to the drive way. The leak washed away all of the dirt from under the drive way and the drive way had to be replaced and we have had a flood in our basement that covered the entire length of the house, since we moved in our home this past April. Because of all of the flooding we acquired a $500 water bill, but DR Horton says they not sure where the water came from, therefore, they are not even partly responsible, but they are also unwilling to try to find out where the water came from either. I have called DR Horton on many occasions, only to be ignored and told they are not responsible for the problems with the water. Our sump pump goes off every five to 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. Needless to say the airflow in the house is horrible also and they are unwilling to even address that issue. We have had problems from the start, but our realtor assured us that DR Horton was very reputable. Our realtor lied and so did DR Horton. If you're looking to buy a home, stay as far away from DR Horton as you possibly can. I would hate for you to regret, your purchase as much as I do. Buying a home should be a joyous occasion.

Good luck with your home...try calling Fox31 Tom Matino and have him do one of his stories...enough bad publicity for Dr. Horton and maybe they might change their attitude toward you...I can't believe your realtor said buy in Murphy Creek, it's right next to the dump. |

DR Horton has paid over $70 million in damages in Colorado (voluntary settlements) over the past year or so. Doesn't really sound like "bad luck" to me.

Hello -
I'm interested in D.R. Horton and complaints that have been filed against them in the past. I don't want to say much more but please contact me - I'd like to hear about your experience with them. Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you. Melissa jakeandmelis@hotmail.com |

DO NOT buy a DR Horton house. I repeat DO NOT buy a DR Horton house! They are low quaility houses. We have had multiple problems with ours. DR Horton does little about them. We are in Spring Mesa-Arvada Colorado. Problems range from grading/drainage, roof leaks, cold bedrooms, hardwood floor and the list goes on. Feel free to contact me at bobk101@hotmail.com.

I find it hard to believe that anyone actually buys the bullshit their realtor tells them when buying a house.
When builders are building entire houses in a month (or less) does anyone really expect QUALITY? It's only common knowledge that they'll tell you anything to sell the house. Aside from that, maybe people should take it upon themselves to do a bit of research about the area you're moving to.(I laugh every time I think of the idiots who moved to Commerce City and believed they were Thornton or whatever other crap they were told) |

all developers are crooks, and the politicians
are in there pockets, people are so nieve, wake up and smell the cement. these so called ground engeneers, are a bunch of crooks who get paid by the developer, to rubber stamp the project. and these overeducated idiots who buy these starter mansions out in b.s. creek are the biggest suckers on earth. welcome to colorado. |

We would strongly caution purchasing anything built by DR Horton. We have had so many problems with the quality of our home. Not small just cosmetic ones but major ones. I'm sure quality varies by neighborhood but I still wouldn't risk it. I like my floor plan but would love it even more it I felt I had gotten quality for the money spent on this house.

We bought our DR horton home 2 years ago. My wife hated the color so we just re painted it. Turns out the paint wont stick to any of the MDF trim boards. The substandard material is braking down and leaching out some chemical and the new paint wont stick. Has anyone else had this problem?
