Oh, thank you for protecting us from ourselves. We wouldn't know how to act or have personal responsibility if we didn't have the great, puritan Commonwealth (aka Nanny State) telling us how to run our lives.
Pa. is behind the times on just about everything. When they do try to do something, they do it so half-assed that it other States laugh at this idiot hole even harder. So, Pa. gets and deserves any ridicule thrown it's way. |

They should be legal, but setting them off in residential areas should not.
I don't appreciate waking in the morning to find burnt paper all over my lawn, and if my house were ever burned by some moron's fireworks, theirs would be next. |

Another case of Big Brother trying to protect every body from everything.
The state should not be controlling peoples private lives. |

Did his sister get a partial for the other two teeth? |

I think that is sensible also. I used to love going to Indiana and visit friends during Indy 500 or July 4th in Chicago. Then we would go out to their farm and shoot off some stuff that would make any municipal fireworks show envious. I think the line has to be draw just like shooting a gun. There should be a minimum setback requirement for setting off fireworks. Just as there is gun safety education requirement for hunting. Why not a one day seminar for setting off fireworks? Even for the most basic forms. If an injury occurs, then have in code that the Commonwealth may fine you if you are not registered and have not passed the fireworks training course. Obstructive regulation is one thing, basic training and registration is another. |

I like fireworks. My buds and I used to make our own variants back in junior high as a sidelight to our model rocketry days. Ever have a big bang cannon? We had a big bang 55 gallon drum... We knew the power of what we were doing. We did not do stupid things, we just liked the eventual use of our work in some open field somewhere with a lot of jet-x fuse.
I grew up with some morons that did stupid stuff like grinding match heads (GRINDING! for a contact chemical!)to put into those tiny CO2 cylinders and blowing their fingers off. Or, the time I went to a concert at the Allentown Fairgrounds and some moron in the upper deck was throwing M-80's down into the crowd!(He was caught, luckily no one got hurt) I do understand why fireworks are illegal with so many STOOPID DUMB BUTTS out there. I'd love to be able to take a short course in safety to certify being able to buy fireworks and use them. |

I have seen more injuries from home made devices. If they legalize the larger fireworks it may stop kids from trying other more dangerous thrills.

Can you imagine if this argument against fireworks was used against the firearms industry? just asking.

It all comes down to common sense!!
I don't believe in registration though.

Fireworks are a waste of money, they pollute the air with lead, strontium and other metals. If you have money to waste on fireworks, you don't need a stimulus package.

Agreed. Fireworks are great, fun and beautiful, but there are just WAY too many idiots out there who don't think when setting them off. One of my neighbors usually gets the big bricks that are almost industrial strength and lights it off in the middle of the dang road. Houses on both sides, and if a car is coming down the road, now the car has to wait because this clown wants to play in the street. I did mention to him that playing on Rte. 22 would be better, but he just gave me a stupid look... |

Plus, your use of a 55-gallon drum is a good example of "recycling"! |

Where are the best local fireworks displays?

According to their MSDS the only pollutant that comes off is NOx, no metals. Which MSDS are you following do you have a link. I get a permit from my township every year to shoot off roman candles, bottle rockets, mortars, etc. on my property. I collect donations from the neighbors and all the kids come over. It's a real fun night. I've been doing it for 8 years now no ones been hurt, but if there is an issue with heavy metals I would like to know about it. |

Besides our own, we also like Catty's over by the Giant. |

if people have money to spend on this stuff, the economy can't be as bad as they're saying it is
