There should be NO CHIEF of Police until all applications are made public at a town meeting. It is time the citizens start attending city meetings. From all indications, if rumor is half trueth the job has been promised behind closed doors to one on the police force presently. Someone has mentioned comments within the city groupies that it was a done deal.
If this is half trueth, something is very wrong with city doing back door deals in the hiring process.
VOTERS start attending meetings of the city, and video record all meetings in the future...no closed door meetings. Many cities are using video broadcast on local cable stations, this needs to be done as well in Augusta and Bracken County.
If it is recorded and made public there would be nothing to hide.
well then

What's wrong with promoting from within? Most companies do that, anyway. Maysville PD did that when they were looking for a new chief. What's so wrong with promoting from within if there is a qualified person? Yes, legally they have to advertise for the position, but I seriously doubt that there are that many qualified candidates scrambling to become police chief of Augusta - especially with no retirement plan, why would any one who has been a police officer with a larger department & has the necessary experience throw away accumulated retirement time in order take a job with Augusta? The only people that are going to be interested are the people who are already drawing their retirement pay & have nothing to lose. That sure narrows the selection field. Sucks, but it's the truth.

Just wait until one of your family member gets raped or a bunch of druggies bust in and kill one looking for drugs or items/money to buy drugs. Then what are going to say when a sheriff gets there 20 or more minutes after there is a call for help. Dumbass!!!!!!!!!!
Well, Cummins would be fleecing the druggies for their money, not arresting them..........

They are a lot of small towns turning the protection of their towns over to the sherriff department and it is working out great and saving the city several thousands of dollars. Personally I don't think the officers should live more than 5 miles out of the city limits they are employed in. But all small towns aren't like Augusta with the idiots running it that are elected now but people will put them right back in there just like they did with the magistrates
Bracken county usually only has two deputies working the night shift. They have to cover all of Bracken county. Depending on where they are it could take them just as long as the off duty city officers to respond. The sheriffs department don't have the numbers to do this. They even have the Augusta cops back them up sometimes because the other deputy is busy or in the middle of the sticks.

Then the sheriff would have to hire a couple more deputies to handle Augusta as well not only that the two cops now live close to an hour away from Augusta. Augusta could cut their police budget in half or less

No point in debating it with you. You obviously don't understand how it works. Augusta police officers have no retirement. If you hired more deputies you would have to pay for their hazardous duty retirement and insurance, which Augusta cops don't have. It would cost more money and Some people in our town would whine about that.

It makes no difference if you have qualifications or not, you have to be related to the mayor or a member of his family to get a job as a city employee. He will hire someone without any experience as long as they are related to him or his family. I think the government should change the amount of power the mayor has. There should be no one person who has the right or ability to control whether anyone has a job within the city. It should be brought before the council also and not just asking their opinion and then do what you want anyway. The way things are now, if the mayor doesn't like you or your ways or if you don't kiss ass, you may be without a job, that is if you got one in the first place.

Glad you brought to the table your points. Now explain why Baxter was promoted to Assistant Chief with Maysville and ended up coming for employment with Augusta that was no way near the benefit package he already had with Maysville as the ASSISTANT CHIEF? Why did Baxter choose to drive approx. 25 miles to a job that not only did not have the benefits as Maysville, but the inconvience of gas, wear and tear on HIS vehicle and not gauranteed hours?
Jobs don't come easily and I would like to know WHAT and WHO promised a better deal to entice him to work in Augusta. Seems the underlying manuevers was working agianst Cummins as the wheels of deception may have been planting the seed from the day Baxter took the bait to work in Augusta.
Many in the Maysville community including leaders has been talking and something just doesn't fit the mold.

Take a special interest of what you stated which is very observant by the way, How was all these businesses operating? As you stated when Doc Brindley got busted, everyone closed shop. How much under the table finances did ol doc have on the leadership of this community. Seems the man may have been holding hands with close ties to keep his business operation for so long. And to think he has visitations presently with a few that wrap their arms around him still. He will be out in a couple of years, guess the connections will make sure he gets that welcome back parade when he does. Maybe when doc gets out of prison then the town will have businesses opening agian as time will tell.

Didn't Dr. B start down the wrong path about the time Healthpoint opened up? I know this isn;t an excuse for what he done. I do know he lost a lot of patients to them. Just saying that he lived a life that could no longer be supported by his practice and you never know what people are capable of when it come to having to keep up with what they are accustom to. What did the Dr. have to do with the business. It was a bunch of pill pushers coming in to get scripts, not to shop. rofl

Now back to the APD and Chief Cummins. Anyone know how the KY Supreme Court Whistleblower suit went? It should be over by now.

yes and cost the city thousands of dollars due to
Laycocks arrogance and wanting to give his "buddy" a better paying job. Putting the Chief's position in the paper was only a formality. I bet the local bookies would give you good odds that the only person considered no matter who applies id Baxter.10 to one odds it will be baxter

Don't worry, those catholics are lining the door with the family ties and businesses. Wouldn't want the Catholic school enrollment to go down, or the questionable money earnings going down in the collection plate.
