It's a combination of the paper mill and the inhabitants of South Augusta.

At night the papermill pumps out all kinds of crap. They like to do their air pollution at night when people are sleeping. If it was done during the day no one would put up with it.

Augusta smells like crap, not even the highest amount of "City Pride" can mask that smell.

I would never live here in a million years, can't city leaders do anything to stop whoever is funking this place up?? Don't they care or are they used to it?

And you hear people whining about second hand smoke, do you really think breathing in that stank is healthy?

Years ago we were traveling through Augusta and my elderly Grandma was in the back seat...my Dad knew it was the smell coming from Contnental Can Co. but he turned around and asked my Grandma if she needed to go to the bathroom. She was horrified but everybody had a good laugh!

I am amazed at the level of blatant racism. Geez. At first I was confused by the comments about South Augusta stinking up the city, etc. I thought maybe you meant there was a sewage plant or something. Turns out no. Just another racist asshole.

The other thing I will add is that I moved here in August and I am desperately trying to figure out why the city smells so terrible. Some days (today) it is almost unbearable. It smells like rotting animals and raw sewage. Is it the canal? Someone said the paper mills do something once a month or so that smells awful. I really want to know. Someone has to have done a definitive study of this issue. It's not something you can ignore.

Been here 4 years living on fort Gordon and this place smells bad. Especially at night. Just had to close the damn window and googled it which brought me here.

There is a paper mill here and also a very large meat processing facility which smells too. Not to mention a lot of chemical and industrial companies in the area.

I just moved to Augusta and it really does stink like a dead fishy smell like when ur approaching a stinky river but no one seems to know what it is. It's disgusting and I really would like to know what is REALLY the cause of it.
