Sheriff's office says pair of pit bulls attacked pony

The Otter Tail County sheriff's office is investigating a report of two pit bulls attacking a Shetland pony near Pelican Rapids.

Classic, I was just reading the story of the pit bull killing the 5 year old and the comments. Refreshed the page and this is the first story I see.
Does anyone really believe you could picture two poodles, retrievers, etc hanging from this pony's neck.
I favor the plan to ban the pit (at least in the city where there is a high population density)- along with the other extremely dangerous dogs. Dangerous for me equals killers. Not just aggressive, but those dogs that are the lock on till the prey dies variety. Personally I would like to see the "tough guys" in my neighborhood walking a poodle instead of their pits. Gangsta mixed with legally blond.

I agree. If not, let the owner of the dog do the time for what the dog does. Kill a 5 year old boy, charge is murder in the first degree, life in prison or the death penalty. Responsibility and accountability. If you want to own this breed of dog or any other breed of dog, you are responsible for what it does as if you had done it yourself.

I do not care what kind of dog it is, pit bull or collie or retriever, owner does the time for the dogs crime would probably be incentive to train any breed of dog correctly.

Ban Pits and Rots asap. These are rotten animals that don't deserve to roam the earth. If not banning them, allow for imprisonment of owners for life for these rotten breeds who attach and force anyone who has one to have millions in liability coverage. I hope they sue the owner big time on this one. These stories are sickening. I feel badly for this pony and kid.

Wow! so the extra enzyme in there DNA has nothing to do with it. Pit bulls and Akita's and a few other breeds are just genetically pre dis positioned to be aggressive its sad but it is a fact. You cant kill them all off that would just be sad and inhuman. So the only thing I think there is to do is regulate the hell out of them. I think the biggest problem is uninformed and stupid or cruel owners.

I don't understand why, with all the other breeds available, anyone would select a pit bull. Well..... I guess I can understand why Michael Vick or a drug dealer gangsta would.

Pits CAN be nice dogs, but too often bad owners cause pits to become WEAPONS.

This story makes me furious. The owners of those dogs should be put away for a long time. The dogs should be put down immediately - heck put down the owners also. Idiots!!!! Thank goodness for the rescuers.

glad you're not my neighbor. When I was a kid there were a bunch of us playing basketball and the neighbor's pit bull got loose and ran over and started attacking our little mixed breed dog and then turned on a couple of the kids. This was a dog that had been in the neighbor hood since he was a pup and us kids were always playing with him and loving on him. So your slight chance in my eyes is a big chance too much. Thank god there were only a few slight injuries and the owner took things into his own hands and had the dog put down before the county even got involved.

I'd support a mandatory muzzle law for dangerous/large breeds. Someting to the effect of anytime the dogs are outdoors,(fenced yard or other) the pet must have a muzzle on as to prevent any accident bites or attacks. I own German Shepards that are very mild tempered when we are around. But I wouldn't dream of putting them in a situation where they would "think" they have to protect us. They are very loyal dogs, and would do anything to keep myself or my family from harm. We have taken them out in public and yes, I muzzle them. We've had people ask us if they're muzzled because they're mean. To which we reply, "no, but why take a chance on someone being bit."

Can we PLEASE bring this issue to a vote? I am all for BANNING Pit bulls in Minnesota! You don't need one and we in the Minnesota community certainly don't want them here! Especially in the Twin Cities
